Veiny 5 year old

I’m really concerned about my 5 year old. He never used to be, but his veins over his torso and hands have become so prominent. This is exacerbated when he’s in the bath but when he’s going about his daily life they’ve very obvious. He’s almost see through in these areas! He has eczema on his hands but his wrists and up his arms trace all the veins. Is this normal? We’re fair skinned but I wouldn’t say really pale. Stupidly I googled and vascular eds came up 🙄 Any support/thoughts I’d be grateful!

I thought this about mine, but he was quite slim. None overly visible by the time he started filling out towards the end of primary/beginning of high school.

I mean I thought he was veiny and transparent.

@YouDriveMeCrazyButICanDoThatMyself thanks so much for replying. My little boy is very slim despite the amount he eats! Thank you so much for commenting - that’s reassuring. Did you speak to anybody medical about it? Also good to hear it took a while and disappeared once he’d filled out 😊

I would question does he show any of the symptoms of vEDS? Hypermobility of small joints? Pneumothorax? Joint dislocations? Clubfoot?
if so, maybe consider genetic consultation

Hi, OP, do you use any cortisone or steroid creams on your sons' skin? They can sometimes make the skin thinner and therefore veins can appear more prominent,

user789264 · 19/11/2025 20:13

@PunishmentRoundupWithJoon yes we do. That’s a good point. Will raise with his dr but doesn’t necessarily explain the chest 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, it should only be happening (if it is because of the creams) in the area they are being applied. Good luck getting to the bottom of this - it's awful when you're worried about your child 😔
