DD is 12
Picked her up from school on Thurs and she looked / felt awful.
She went straight up to bed.... had a few mouthfuls of dinner, then had an olbas oil bath, some paracetamol and was in bed SLEEPING before 7pm.

She didnt wake until 10am yesterday, but since then her temp has not dropped below 39, and has been up to 39.5, even when having p.mol 4 times per day. She had 11 hours of solid sleep last night too.

Yes, I've called 111, and yes I'm 3 hours into a 6 hour wait, waiting for a Dr to call back. (actually i did the online form which prompted NHS 111 to call me back and the person who I spoke to said i needed to speak to a medical person)

Can i expect anything other than a trip to out of hours?

Could do without that.... our OOH is at our local hospital, where all the Drs are currently on strike only dealing with life threatening problems and serious injuries.

She is flopped on the sofa, binge watching netflix (fine by me) and is eating and drinking etc. She has a v sore throat, cough, strange voice, runny nose etc etc, but i'm not concerned that she is "seriously ill" or anything like that.

If she sees a Dr is there any chance I can convince them NOT to give her ABs?

@nannyl it sounds as if she has the flu. I had swine flu and could still make it out of bed because I preferred the sofa and had a 1 year old to look after

Proper flu is really nasty. Because she is young and strong, she's still able to eat and drink even though she is quite poorly, but it can be quite debilitating for several days and give fatigue for some time afterwards. (Assuming flu is what she has, I doubt doctors will bother testing for it).

Thank you

She saw a Dr yesterday (not an advanced nurse practitioner) who checked her vital signs (and confirmed she was ok to remain at home etc) and decided she didnt need ABs.
Her temp was dropping yesterday and is now around 37.8..... so much much lower than the weekend.

She is continueing to sleep 15 / 16 hours a night, and spend all day on the sofa. Any time she moves / speaks / does anything she has a huge coughing fit.

She is clearly unwell, but also a bit better in herself than she was at the weekend. Her throat is painful but she is drinking enough and eating a little.

She hasnt been tested for flu, or anything else, but i dont think it matters. She seems to have flu. Today is day 6 of being really unwell and she is certainly not even nearly better yet. I cant see her going back to school before Monday. (Dr also saw her for approx 2 mins which was long enough for him to conclude she would not be in school all week, and to basically sleep and drink, take paracetamol and ibuprofen and let her body fight it, which is exactly what she is doing)

Has she had a throat swab for Strep A (ie scarlet fever/strep throat)?

It was missed when my daughter had it because she didn't have the classic rash/strawberry tongue or spots on throat. Untreated it becomes a very nasty illness so if you're in any doubt insist on a throat swab. I think you can also buy them now.

i had norovirus then came down with flu straight after it. I basically slept for 2 weeks in between sweating, downing water and taking painkillers. The rest is probably what she needs. I felt like Bambi wobbling about for a while after
