Yes. DD had a GA at 9 weeks old. The surgeon saved her life. She is 25 now.

It's a worrying time for you but please be reassured that they know what they are doing 💐

Kirbert2 · 07/11/2025 18:43

Mine is older but has had many, many GA's for operations and intrathecal chemotherapy.

It will be fine, I promise. They will let you be with them until they are asleep and it will be over before you know it.

Thank you both 🤍 I’m terrified. She’s my first and it’s all been a lot with being in and out of hospital! Now she has this on Tuesday and I’m freaking out. Just the thought of seeing my sweet baby having to go through that is stressing me out so much but I have to think positive!

Bit older but my son had a GA at 15 months. I won’t lie it was scary but they know what they are doing xx

DustyMaiden · 07/11/2025 19:42

My DGD had GA for MRI because they are not physically doing anything or even touching the child they need the absolute minimum of anaesthetic. She came around very quickly.

My dd had one at 9 months old for some surgery: she was fine and home the same day

CCLCECSC · 07/11/2025 20:16

Mine had several across first few months of life. Always surprised us how quickly she came round from them. The team looking after your child will be v v experienced so ask all the questions you need to. Hope all goes well.

My 12 year old had a GA aged 6 months exactly. It was a 3 hour operation and he took a bit of time to come round but other than that he was absolutely fine. They normally do little ones first which means your baby will be gowned up and off to the x ray department before you have time to worry. My son has had so many general anaesthetics now, he just strolls in, asks the play specialist for the x box and the switch and settles down to wait. Pyjama fairies are really good for doing pyjamas and theatre gowns for children in hospital and they have no metal which is perfect for MRI scans. It wasn't until one of my dc had an MRI that i realised that almost all baby clothes have poppers!

GA at 9 months old, stressful and horrible, no point pretending it wasn’t, but we got through cx

TwinkleTwinkleLittleBatgirl · 07/11/2025 20:38

Oh yes @elliejjtiny when play therapist was in explaining cannulas and epidural on a bear I was v emotional.. dc clearly had no clue, but it helped me!

lurvy · 07/11/2025 20:50

My son had a GA at 3 months old. It was just fine. It's scary, they are so small, but everything went well and he made a full recovery quickly.

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 07/11/2025 20:52

It’s possibly the safest time to be around to be honest. She’ll have the one to one attention of a senior anaesthetist who has been training for years to do this.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 07/11/2025 21:36

My son had GA as a small baby and had an MRI under sedation. I also had multiple surgeries as a baby. We’re both fine. The doctors know what they are doing and only want the best for your DC.

Nottogetapenny · 07/11/2025 21:44

When my daughter was 4 months old she had a GA to correct a hernia she had. It was years ago, I remember the feeling handing her over, I was so scared. It was awful. She was absolutely fine, and made a quick recovery.
Hope things go well with your little one, and take care of yourself. 😘🌺

Boeufsurletoit · 07/11/2025 21:52

My DD had GA at 5 months. The anaesthetists were caring and very experienced. She was absolutely fine and I felt reassured throughout that she was in the very best hands.

aa10355 · 08/11/2025 12:51

Thank you all! Feeling much calmer

GA at 14 mths for a 2 hr op. GA was fine, it was the pain that was the problem when he woke up (which won't be the case for an MrI). Hope all goes smoothly.
