What to expect after 3 year old having a GA?

My 3 year old is having an MRI under general anaesthetic this week which I’m shitting myself over and trying to mentally prepare myself for. I’ve read a bit about what to expect on the day but just wondering how long it takes them to be back to normal after one. If your child has had a MRI or other non invasive procedure under GA at around 3 were they their normal selves the next day? Did they sleep and eat normally after the initial period when they are coming out of it?

My kid was 4 going on 5 when he had a GA. What I wasn't prepared for was how grumpy and cross he was for about an hour after he came around. We had got him a present and he wanted none of it, just crying and hitting us when we tried to make him feel better and being very out of sorts. After about an hour he was back to himself and no lingering after effects.

Mine had a few ages 2-3, one for an MRi. I don’t remember them taking long to get back to their normal selves. Just a bit groggy for a while. Being put under is the worst bit at that age- it was quite traumatic so prepare your self for that! ( and I’m quite stoic in general!)

My 3 year old took AGES to come round cos she’d had a sedative beforehand. Scary as hell but apparently very common. Then was extremely grumpy and cross and crying as the previous poster said. The doctors said all normal

My child was about 14 mths when he had a GA for a complicated 2 hr op. The recovery from the GA wasn't a concern (it was the pain that was difficult, but that won't apply in your case). Hope it goes smoothly for you.

My quiet, placid four year old was like a rabid animal whilst coming round, it took four nurses to hold him while he was thrashing and biting. Apparently it’s quite common for them to be agitated when they wake up. After 20 minutes he calmed down and was wanting to get up to play with the toys. It’s not fun, but it’s temporary and they bounce back quickly.
