Hi, all.

So at the moment both HFM and chicken pox are making the rounds at nursery. She has some symptoms of HFM as she has a couple of spots around her mouth and genitals. It's not been bothering her though.

Today she woke up as normal and had her Wheetabix and was happy. About 20 mins later she seemed inconsolable, and sort of oscillated between inconsolable and drowsy wanting to fall asleep. She wasn't interested in toys and wouldn't eat he fruit, which she's normally obsessed with.

We then noticed she had a flat red rash on her chest down to her breast area. It was also on her back. I don't have a thermometer, but I'd say she felt warmer than usual but not burning up. We gave some Calpol.

So we rang 111 and ended up with an OOH GP appointment. By that point, the rash had gone and she's perked up. We got told her ear looked inflamed inside, but because it's only one ear, to just carry on with paracetamol instead of antibiotics.

She's been fine all afternoon. She's been playing and eating well, just seemed a bit more tired than normal. But now she's gotten warm again, has fallen asleep on me (she's sleeping through the hoover as the cat has broke a glass in the kitchen), and her rash is back :(

I'm a first time mum and I'm worrying about the rash. Is it a normal thing as part of viruses? Does she need to go back to OOH? Not sure if I need to do anything or if it's normal given she's got both HFM and an ear infection. Poor little thing only had a chest infection two weeks ago, and before that she had D+V 😭

Rashes are very common with viruses
keep an eye on her temp, use calpol and of course ring 111 for further advice as she’s a young child
always better to be cautious with little ones
