Need advise.
we’re heading to a getaway tomorrow. Until Friday Not far from home. Inviting family.
however both my boys have a sickness bug, have since Friday and it’s still lingering. Despite me bleaching everything.
do we still go?
my youngest has just thrown up everywhere - my partners in a panic.
really not sure what to do.

I’d consider-
anyone vulnerable going?
would your children be well enough to travel?
do either of you feel ill?
when you tell family are they the stay away type from us type or not bothered?
Could one of you still go ? (If family are happy)
could you go in a day or two?

What the hell?

If you can’t cancel and get your money back, I would let the family go that you were meant to be meeting there and join them when your house has been symptom free for 48 hours

48 hours.

Teeteringpiles555 · 19/10/2025 19:02

Why is this even a debate?

Of course you shouldn’t selfishly inflict your children’s bugs on to everyone else because you want a nice holiday,

The timing absolutely sucks so I feel for you and your family op but you must cancel.

This is always a potential problem when travelling with young so best to fork out for insurance.

48 hours.

Yes, 48 hours. That’s what I said!

Apologies - I quoted the wrong poster!

MrsLizzieDarcy · 19/10/2025 20:35

Norovirus is absolutely miserable and I can't imagine why anyone would want to pass it on, let alone to family. The rule is to isolate for at least 48 hours following the last vomit/diarrhoea episode.

partytimed · 19/10/2025 20:39

This is awful timing for you. I’m sorry this is happening and hope your kids are better soon and it isn’t passed on. If I were due to be meeting you there I’d be so upset to arrive and find out some of you had a sickness bug. I wouldn’t want to mix with anyone with one. The least you can do is inform family beforehand if you’re still going.

No it’s shitty to ask anyone if they would mind you passing a stomach bug onto them. Use common sense and don’t go

It depends on the family my in-laws wouldn’t care in the slightest . My own parents would not want us to go.
Also depends how ill, obviously if they are laid up and profusely vomiting they are not going to enjoy it anyway.

Is it? I'd rather someone gave us the full story and the option of deciding for ourselves how we feel about the risk than cancelling unilaterally.

As long as the DC felt up to travelling and I was part of the other family meeting up then I'd let OP know it was fine by me.

Empress13 · 19/10/2025 20:46

Poor kids will be feeling ill so going away will be the last thing they want not to
mention passing it on to your poor family . Are they aware the kids are ill?

Well you are pretty unusual, and totally daft. But if you’d be happy to inflict stomach bugs on your children then that’s up to you, it doesn’t make it smart or right.

Zanatdy · 19/10/2025 20:50

Most check ins you just give the name, they don’t ask for ID. Get your family to check in, and go a day later if better. Last thing you want is to infect everyone.

Only thing is the booking is in our name - so we have to be there. But I’ll see what can be done. Thank you.

Are you sure?

i always book and pay for the hotels that my dad and ds stay in - and I don’t go with them!

Still not unreasonable for me to be given the choice though.

Ah, I’m guessing it’s centre parcs? Then you really can’t go - if it were a remote self catering and your family were happy that’s what thing (though I wouldn’t do it) but definitely not a holiday village place. You’ll be spreading it left right and centre.

TheFluffiestCat · 20/10/2025 11:02

Your family or his? If one parent is able to manage vomiting children, could the one whose family are visiting go? If everyone’s puking everywhere and it’s all hands on deck, clearly not.

BelatrixLestrange · 20/10/2025 11:08

I would be very angry with you if you came on holiday with sick children and caused me to be ill.

SummerEve · 22/10/2025 08:15

Any update on this ?
