10 year old worrying me

Bex1517 · 14/10/2025 16:53

My 10 year old son came to me on Thursday with a headache and feeling tired. The headache was gone in the morning He attended school on the Friday came home then had diarrhoea which continued into Saturday. He didn’t have any bowel movement on Sunday… Monday he had diarrhoea again. Still eating breakfast and lunch then not eating all his dinner which is unusual. Today is Tuesday and he again hasn’t had a bowel movement.

I think I will book him a dr appointment tomorrow. Has anyone else’s kid had this? I’m a worse case scenario person and all thoughts are running through my head. I would say he looks a little more pale than usual.

Honestly, this sounds like a virus. I would give it a week and possibly call the GP for advice if no better by then. Disclaimer - not a medic, but have raised 3 children to adulthood.

What’s running through your head? Sounds like he’s got a bit of an irritated stomach / bowel

CracklingFlames · 14/10/2025 16:55

Eh, he's just a bit under the wether. Why would you call the GP?

anonymoususer9876 · 14/10/2025 16:57

There’s a lot of bugs going around at school at the moment. Is there anything else that makes you think it’s not just a virus?

@anonymoususer9876thank You for that. I just didn’t think that 💩 comes and goes like that. He just doesn’t seem to have much energy either.

@Salemsplot just is it anything more
serious than just a virus and I’m missing something

Sounds viral. I hate this time of year, its rife.

34ransum · 14/10/2025 17:16

I'm have huge health anxiety when it comes to my kids but I read your post waiting for the worrying part and it didnt come! I'd be thinking virus too

Bex1517 · 14/10/2025 17:19

@34ransumyup so do I hence the worry. I was worried it could be something like Leukemia with him being tired and pale. But like you I have massive health anxiety

Sounds like a virus, possibly Covid as the current strain is meant to cause stomach upsets. My DD has had similar last week but is better now.

realsavagelike · 14/10/2025 17:52

I freak out about health issues, and I don't see any reason to be concerned here.
I've never seen bowel issues listed as a symptom of leukemia.

TheDenimPoet · 14/10/2025 17:57

Have you considered that he might be constipated? That can make you feel really rubbish, and affect appetite. You can get diarrhoea as a kind of overspill around the blockage, making it look like an upset stomach when it's not. It's called paradoxical diarrhoea.

Obviously a GP visit if it carries on, but it might be worth considering. Try getting him to drink lots of fluids - it can only help!

I wouldn’t necessarily jump to leukaemia. I get it though - my brain does that! If it goes on much longer, get him checked out. The GP can give you a test kit for fecal calprotectin which will give an indication of any inflammation in the bowel. The sample can also be used to check for viruses and bacteria. It’s just when you mentioned the pale skin and tiredness, my son was like this and was eventually diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. I just knew there was something going on. You know your own child. But I can also say that my mind has gone to plenty of dark places when my children were unwell and usually it’s been fine. Aw, I hope it’s just a wee bug and he feels better soon.

@Bex1517 If you have massive health anxiety as you state you must know that you should be dealing with this.

It should not be affecting your children or putting them at risk of invasive testing, extra dr visits or creating anxiety in them - it is not fair to them to suffer for your issue.

cestlavielife · 14/10/2025 18:23

Take a covid test before spreading it at gp

Flopsicle · 15/10/2025 21:38

Sounds like covid - probably worth doing a test
