Hypermobile DD2 saying her legs are hurting

Looking for some advice...

DD2 diagnosed with hypermobility last year. She has dislocated her elbow twice. Now she has been saying both legs are hurting at the back of the knees and says the pain is 'like my arm.'

No problems with movement - sitting, standing, walking happily - so it's not like a dislocation, but keeps mentioning it.

Any advice welcome, thanks

Is she hyper extending? So her knees are bending back past 180° on standing? That could be the cause of the pain and the physio should be able to guide you towards some exercises to help strengthen her legs and reduce this.

I'm hypermobile too, now 50 . I would recommend doing strengthing exercises so that her muscles can best support her. Look at Pilates. She will really beenfit from this.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll keep a look out for hyperextending. She was discharged from PT after diagnosis and they will only re-register if she is still having problems at age 12.

I am looking up strengthening exercises and Pilates now to see what I can find

Does she wear orthotics- I’m another late hypermobility diagnosis after learning my DD had it and we both need orthotics due to dropped arches and if I don’t wear my orthotics my knees and hips really hurt as it means the “wrong” part of my knee and muscles are doing the work

itsgettingweird · 01/10/2025 17:20

Good point about orthotics.

My ds has the opposite problem (he’s hyper mobile a so has spasticity) and he needs orthotics to help position his feet to limit pain.

Hi, no she doesn't wear orthotics and I don't know if she needs them - the PT we saw just said there were no treatment options for us at her age and discharged her, so I don't really know where to turn atm

Probably is her hypermobility. My daughter has Ehlers Danlos and can't walk far due to aching legs.
