Knee pain

My DD8 is a family active child she has been complaining of knee pain for the last few months. I have hope with some activities stopping over the summer holidays rest would help, however have started back activities her knee is painful again especially after any running or jumping.

She was seen by a paramedic at thr GP surgery who advised carrying on and just taking painkillers but I felt this didn't sit right as it is not normal for a 9 year old to have knee pain so much.

I got her seen by a private physio who advised further rest and to start exercising again after 3 weeks. This weekend she has run on it and in the evening the knee was throbbing and painful. Physio advised getting her seen in urgent treatment centre for a possible xray. On presenting at the urgent treatment centre they said there was nothing they could do and we needed to go back to the GP.

I have done an e-consult today but I am concerned as I know it can be a long wait for the GP to come back to us and even long for a possible scan. I don't know whether she should be resting or carrying on with painkillers. She has competitions booked in that I don't know if I need to cancel. I would pay privately to get it looked at but due to her age this doesnt seem straightforward. I am not really sure what to do next to progress things.

Did they x-ray it? I think a joint that has been hurting for months merits a scan. When it is painful, is there visible swelling? If so, I'd present to an urgent treatment centre / minor injuries unit again while it is inflamed and insist on an x-ray.

I'm not a medic but I would have thought a soft tissue injury would have resolved itself in a child after a few months so I'd want to know what the cause is.

Don't be afraid to advocate strongly for investigation.

They didn't xray it they didn't even look at the knee. They said she was not limping walking into the treatment room and therefore there was no indication for an xray.

I have had a message from GP to say they will get back to me within 14 days so I suppose we wait but I am concerned that she is doing more damage walking on it and just taking painkillers to mask the pain. We are icing it every night but not sure what else we can do.
