Chapped lips, GP visit?

When do chapped lips require a GP visit? No matter what I use, DDs chapped lips don’t get any better. It’s been this way for about a year.

I apply Vaseline a few times a day and before bed but have used lanolin, aquaphor, aveeno and everything in between. No matter what I do they look like this ALL the time ☹️ she doesn’t pick at them or lick them (that I’ve noticed). They are driving me insane. They just peel off and start all over again..just not sure what more a GP could do.

Thanks so much everyone - so many good recommendations and advice. I’m going to stop putting anything on and see what happens, it could well be that she has reacted to something in a balm and then I’ve tried to combat it with another. I will see what happens and then can go from there 🙏🏻

Just returning on this thread as I stopped everything for a week and tried the other recommendations and if anything, it got worse. I spoke to the GP who called it lip lickers dermatitis, they prescribed 1% hydrocortisone ointment and within 2 days it’s completely gone!

The only concern I have is has it ‘fixed’ it.. or will it come back with a vengeance. I’ve been told to use it for 4 weeks once a day, then every other and then wean off completely. I’m so pleased DD finally has some relief but have read a lot about hydrocortisone causing more problems than helping..

Glad you came back. She is licking the dry lips so if that has been rectified it should keep at bay. Make sure that she has some sort of sentive skin lip balm to keep them moisturised when they are clear. I see this all the time at school. The chn get chapped lips in the colder months, the skin gets tight so they lick them which gives temporary relief but makes the chapping worse.
