Faecal impaction help for 2 year old

Any advice would be really appreciated. DS is 2 years old and has been straining badly when trying to poo. He is clearly in pain and has only managed to pass liquid poo for the last two days. He normally poos a couple of times a day without issues so this isn't a chronic condition. He has all the signs of faecal impaction, no solid poo, abdominal pain, frequent, small amounts of diarrhoea/leakage in nappy. To complicate things, we have flown to Italy (middle of nowhere) for my sister's wedding tomorrow. I am worried having read online that a blockage can't pass naturally and to seek medical help, but don't want to overreact and derail my sister's wedding. Does anyone have any experience with toddler impaction? Might he pass it? Do I need to take him to a pharmacy asap or is it safe to get through the wedding weekend? We are in rural Italy, miles from a town and I'm not sure anything will even be open over the weekend. He is happy, hungry and drinking water in-between his painful attempts to poo. Thank you Mumsnet in advance!

He at least needs medication. Dr in Italy are really good.

Sounds like he could use stool softener - worth sending your DP to a pharmacy I think. Or if there are any guests travelling with lactulose, that's safe for toddlers and commonly carried by the older generation. Unfortunately it gets worse if not treated and I'm assuming you've tried the usual hacks of warm bath, and extra juice.

He probably does need meds but until you can sort that lots of water, lots of fruit (not banana), prunes, a warm drink (not milk!) warm baths, exercise to get things moving, basically anything you would do to help a constipated adult.

If this isn't normal for him it could be the change in diet being away from home.

Probably the travel - See a doctor asap he may need a suppository to help soften bottom end and lots of fluid and laxative to keep soft otherwise could end up with a fissure which is really painful poor little boy. Try and get it sorted before wedding as you won’t enjoy it and may derail it worse if you leave it.

What he probably really needs is a macrogol - trade names include movicol, laxido, cosmocol. Have a look at www.eric.org.uk

Tinned prunes - get them to drink the juice. Worked a treat for mine. We had this problem when we switched from nappies to potty training.

You should get him to a pharmacy as soon as possible.

Call the guardia medica, they have local gps through the night in Italy. They mostly speak English, or go to local farmacia di turno, chemist's stay open all night on a rota basis.
My ds had this, we lived it Italy,
They gave him a glucose type syringe you give it up the bum it softens everything.
