Baby with LPR/extraoesophageal acid reflux - how long will it last

Does anyone have any experience with their baby having LPR/extraoesophageal acid reflux where it causes damage and inflammation to the throat and vocal cords, along with hoarse voice? This is not the common reflux that babies quickly grow out of, as its not milk or food going up, its acid reaching the throat and nasel passage. So a severe form of it.

Our 11 month old baby has seen specialist who thinks its this type of reflux and she is on ppi which has got rid of hoarseness but not the chronic excess mucous in throat and constant crackling harsh sound in thoat. Whenever we gave her acidic food in past her throat would worsen and nasel congestion would occur.

She is on a bland non acidic diet too, but just wondering how long before the throat cleared up in your baby with this type of reflux. And if they ever eventually were free from the LPR reflux and could go on normal diet again? And if you were on ppi, did the acid reflux come back after they were taken off it? I dont like her being on ppi but worried if we dont, worse long term damage could happen to her little throat.

Thanks

I can't answer most of your post as my daughter has regular gerd but she's been on omperazole since 8 weeks and as now 5! She's not outgrown her reflux. In addition to the omperazole she's on domperidone and infant gaviscon.
Her reflux has been difficult to manage and we have had to be careful with some foods for her reflux and also to protect her teeth from the damage from the reflux. She has a lot for food allergies so we already have a limited diet

My mum has severe gerd too and it has taken about 8 year to get hers under control, she also has Barrett's syndrome. She couldn't tolerate ppis for a long time. She has to be on a bland diet but has slowly been able add to that diet. At its worst she could only have water but now can have decaffeinated drinks, cordial and very small glasses of fizzy drinks. She can't have meat, dairy, anything spicy or with onions and garlic. She had a partial wrap on her oesophagus just over a year ago and that made things better for about 3 months and that allowed her oesophagus to get into a better state and she was able to tolerate the ppis a bit better with lifestyle adjustments. She's now been told she can start relaxing her diet to see how her reflux responds if she wishes

We’re at 21 months and no sign of it easing but I believe that unusual, most outgrow by around a year.

In our case, it’s really triggered when she has a cold and is coughing so I’m hoping it’ll get better as her immune system improves
