Any ideas what this 'rash' could be?

Hi all.

My 4yr old has developed a red patch across the bridge of his nose and accross his cheeks. I'll attach a photo. It looks like sunburn but it's not. It has been there for months and progressively getting more noticeable.
I'm worrying because when I Google it, it says it can be an early sign of lupus. His grandmother died from lupus. She had a gene mutation that causes lupus which can be passed on.
Of course this doesn't mean my son has lupus... Has anyone else experienced a similar rash and knows what it could be?. I'm calling it a rash but it's not a rash I just don't know what else to call it... A red mark lol.
We have seen a gp who didn't really know what it was and has told us to speak with his community paediatrics team. (He's disabled and has a neurological team).

OP you may need to post a better pic as I see no rash at all.

This is a picture of his face. Maybe it's hard to see? It looks like his cheeks are blushed/sunburnt. But they're like it all the time. It's called a butterfly rash. Sometimes it's more obvious than other times. But it's slowly getting worse.

Any ideas what this 'rash' could be?

Probably slapped cheek.

Google it but it’s a common childhood virus that tends to be about a lot this time of year.

It's not slapped cheek. He's had this for months. I originally thought it was from the sun but it hasn't ever gone away.
My Kids have had slapped cheek in the past and the rash was totally different.

Cute kid but sorry it may just not be showing up well in photos as I still don't really see anything other than what might be a bit of a sunburn? So not a rash really....

@Hiptothisjive that's my point. It looks like sunburn but it isn't. It has been there for months now and getting darker. It's called malar rash/butterfly rash. but it's not a rash as such just a mark. I was just hoping someone could stop me worrying because this is sometimes the first symptom of lupus which we have family history of.
Anyways this hasn't been any help 😂
I'll wait for his appointment with his paediatric team.

What did the GP say before the referral, or is he under the team for something else already?

@CatsorDogsrule the GP didn't know what it was. It's not a typical rash so it's not an allergic reaction or anything. My son is disabled so has a paediatric neurology team so the gp said to discuss it with them to be safe as there is a family history of lupus.

I have no experience with it, but I can see why you are concerned. Hopefully there's a different explanation though.
