I've just been to the doctors this morning however was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences.
Noticed a little lump on the side of my little boy's neck around a week ago, sort of underneath & slightly behind his ear.
He's well in himself, gaining weight & overall happy & healthy, has had his jabs nearly 3 weeks ago but seemed fine with them (no rash or fever etc just a bit off his food).
The doctor said to come back in 2 weeks & if it's gotten smaller then basically no problem & if it's larger / stays the same then to do a referral to paediatrics and a blood test. She said the lump seems about 1cm. It seems to have stayed the same since I noticed it so I doubt it will go down.

I'm so worried, I've read these lumps or raised glands can be normal in children of this age however would like to hear if anyone else's child has had this sort of lump and what happened?
Thanks x

My DS was about 6ish (can’t quite remember) when I noticed a lump on his neck. Went to GP who referred us to a consultant. He decided he should have it removed under anaesthetic and have it tested.
I was absolutely beside myself with worry! Fast forward to the day his operation was due. He was second on the afternoon list and was NIL by mouth etc. The consultant came round to check all was ready, felt the lump and said he thought it had reduced a bit and he wouldn’t now remove it! I was a mix of relieved and pissed off that we’d all built up to this for so long!
Anyway, a week or so after that, DS came out with chicken pox, so I have no idea if that was connected or not. He’s 25 now and assume the lump has gone?!
Definitely always get it checked and go from there. Hope your little one will be just fine.

is it a lymph node?
I’ve noticed these on the back of my son’s head, but they’re both sides. I assumed it was normal to feel small nodes in babies?
is it moveable?

I think it might be a lymph node, the doctor said it looks like it is. It's not soft as such but not hard either if that makes sense & does move. It's just quite noticeable on his neck when you look at him side on so not sure if it's just close to the surface or inflamed etc.
I actually do myself have a lymph node in my neck that for years has been bigger than the other. Not noticeable to see but definitely can feel it. Had an ultrasound and just told it's normal so not sure at all if it's something related with my son and I.
I really hope it goes down tho don't think it will as it hasn't since I found it! But hopefully doesn't get any bigger and if he needs bloods etc then I'm hoping it's all just normal x

Chances are it's nothing, but if you are doing an investigation it would be worth asking if an ultrasound is necessary. My (adult) daughter has an odd lump on the side of her neck and an ultrasound has shown thyroid cancer - the specialist said a blood test wouldn't have detected it. Just something to mention in case they think an ultrasound is good idea. Sorry, not wanting to worry you.

My daughter constantly had a lumpy neck at that age, orher ppl would comment! It was just temporary raised lymph nodes, much less noticeable now she is a very healthy 11!

i noticed 2 lumps in my DD’s neck when she was around 7weeks old, I tried seeing her GP however was told ‘unless they’re the size of a golf ball you don’t need to be worried’ and he wouldn’t see us. Obviously Dr Google got me so panicked I decided to use my private health care that I’m very lucky to have through my workplace. We saw a paediatrician who also said they’re about 1cm (I think anything below 2cm is less of a worry) wasn’t worried but would send us for an ultrasound if I wanted..which of course I did! Ultrasound was all fine and scheduled an appt for 6months time to check on them. They were still there but hadn’t grown the paediatrician said it’s very common to be able to feel lymph nodes in babies / young children especially in their neck. He had no concerns as she wasn’t losing weight / lethargic etc. She’s now 20months and still has them. I was extremely worried when I first found them but glad I got the reassurance.

Thank you everyone.
I will definitely ask for an ultrasound when we have our check up at the doctors in 2 weeks.
TupperJen, where abouts on the side was your daughter's lump? My little boy's is sort of underneath his ear slightly behind it x
