Hello, just wondering if anyone has had this. Don't know if it's normal and if we should see a doctor. My son is 4.5 now and he's always had random vomiting. Went to nursery and has just started school. Every couple of months he vomits once , no other symptoms at all and no one else ever gets it. Doesn't seem to be anxious. Doesn't occur after certain foods. Is this a thing with young kids? Thanks in advance.

This could be a number of different things. I would see a GP so they can run some tests, kids vomit a lot at that age.

What kind of things do you think it could be? Thanks for your reply

@nervousmum26reflux, allergies, mild stomach bugs, food intelroance, motion sickness? So many possibilities. Keep a diary when it happens.

My niece suffered random vomiting, she was eventually diagnosed with coeliacs.

Two of my kids had this. One grew out of it. The other was diagnosed with migraines at about 8 years old. Talk to a GP about it.

Interesting. He did have bad reflux as a baby

@whereisit1 yes, my dd (the one diagnosed with migraines) was terrible as a baby with reflux / just projectile vomiting up a whole feed. She stopped the cyclical vomiting / regular throwing up by the time she was in Y4 I think. We had a period of going Gluten Free (despite no evidence of coeliacs) at some point and that seemed to help. Doctor supported us in a "worth a try" kind of a way. We ended up with a doctor's note to say that she had regular vomiting so she didn't need to miss 48 hours of school every time she threw up (she would not have been able to attend school if so), She is now 16, and still suffers from stomach aches and headaches that seem to have no cause, although vomiting is now limited to pre-menstrual days. Her diet is also sub-optimal because she doesn't like how food makes her feel. She was advised to take gaviscon when she was feeling bad, but she doesn't like that much either. It's been a journey. We keep going back to the GP every time she starts missing school again: they do bloods regularly but because she is not underweight (nor overweight) and fundamentally has energy and looks healthy there are no other investigations offered. Good luck OP.
