We are due to go on a 4 hour flight in 13 days with our baby to our friends wedding where I am a bridesmaid.

I took my 4.5 month old to the doctors yesterday and it has been confirmed that she has an ear infection so we have been given 5 days worth of antibiotics. She also has a cold at the moment.

Do you think she is going to be ok to fly? Feeling very stressed!

Yes, you have loads of time! With the antibiotics the infection should clear up in a few days

Yeah antibiotics kick in pretty quick, I think she’ll be absolutely fine.

I flew trans Atlantic shortly after my baby had an infection and a perforated eardrum. It was actually fine because the ear hadn't healed fully yet and therefore baby had no problem equalising the pressure. Baby's hearing in fine now.

So we’ve finished the antibiotics today. She seems generally absolutely fine, no temperature either, nothing coming out of her ears. She only occasionally pulls at her ears every now and again.

We’ve seen the doctor again today who confirmed they are still a bit red. She has prescribed us more antibiotics but has said they probably won’t do much so it’s up to us if we want to give them. The doctor has been very vague on whether we should fly or not which isn’t helping. I’m going to take her back in again in a week which is the day before we are due to fly.

I really need some advise? Would you take your little one on the plane?

If baby is happy and not grumpy then do fly. Be prepared to feed baby during takeoff and landing - swallowing helps clear ears, in case the ears hurt.

2 weeks is ample time to get over it.

All depends on the severity of the ear infection. Has the ear drum perforated?
my little boy last year had a severe ear infection ended up being hospitalised due to suspected sepsis due to it and we were flying 6 weeks after when I asked the doctor if it would be ok she said that would be fine but if we had been flying within a couple of weeks she would have advised us not to.
