Three week old with suspected Whooping Cough

Baby has had the typical whooping cough for the last two weeks incredibly mildly (only a few episodes per day). She has been seen by Drs and midwives who are all happy with her stats and say she is presenting well - other than the cough. I have been advised to keep an eye on her and bring her back to the hospital should any other symptoms develop.

Unfortunately I feel she is developing further symptoms now - classic cold symptoms like sneezing, runny nose and eyes etc.

I will of course be taking her back to the hospital for further observation if this continues.

Does anybody have any experience with a newborn with Whooping Cough? I can’t find any previous threads on Mumsnet with a newborn with it. From what I can gather, there is no treatment other than waiting to see how strongly/mildly they have it and assisting with their breathing should it get serious.

Does anyone know if Whooping Cough can be quite mild even in newborns? Or does it tend to always be quite serious in children this young?

Did you have chance to get the whooping cough/pertussis jab during pregnancy? The aim of that is for you to transfer enough maternal antibodies over to baby via the placenta so they if they DO catch whooping cough, they can fight it off. It sounds like this is exactly what is happening & world explain mild symptoms? Fingers crossed for your little one being better soon 💐

fibgers crossed. I hope your baby is ok. My idiot ex and his wife have refused to have their 3 children vaccinated and this is exactly the sort of thing that happens as a consequence 😞

Unfortunately I didn’t have the vaccine during pregnancy.

How is your baby today? Take them to hospital if you continue to have concerns
