Possible bone spurs in teen

My dd14 has 2 kind of bonus protrusions, one on her collarbone and one on her foot. Not sure what they could be. Google suggested bone spurs as a possibility but they seem to be associated with injury, arthritis and old age, none of which sound like the cause of two separate ones in a teenager. She's also complained of dizziness and headaches which I think are hormone related but no idea really. Anyway I filled in an online appointment triage form today and the Dr has given me an appointment for tomorrow. Not sure whether to be worried or not as genuinely no idea what it could be. Any ideas?

My teen daughter had one on her knee. It was difficult as it used to catch on the tendon and make her knee get stuck. She needed quite a big op to remove it. She has a smaller one on her other knee but not causing too many issues.

They can be caused by lots of exercise but not sure about the collar bone one. A quick x ray will show it quite clearly.

She doesn't do a lot of exercise tbh, though she does weekly watersports and climbing at the climbing wall

What did the doc say?

Magnificentkitteh · 30/08/2025 15:04

Not much, annoyingly. She wanted to go in by herself so I waited outside. She seemed to be in there ages but apparently will need another appointment to discuss bone spurs as spent the whole time talking about dizziness and headaches. She is being sent for blood tests. I guess if she thought the bone thing was urgent she'd have said so.

I have bone spurs on my spine, its not urgent thing at all. Rarely they do anything for them despite causing problems/pain.

PrincessOfPreschool · 01/09/2025 09:55

True, headaches prob more urgent and blood tests. DD had to wait a couple of years before actual op and couldn't do P. E which was awful for her. But yes, if bone spurs they are not that urgent.

Filled in the form again and she's got another appointment next week. Less worried about the actual bone spurs as they're not bothering her, more worried about what the cause might be.

They just happen to people, it doesnt mean anything serious is wrong. Please dont panic

Thanks, the NHS mentions arthritis of not the result of an injury, which worried me a bit
