Hello everyone, I am in desperate need of some advice or any suggestions to make it better. My daughter has been on and off with frequent need to wee since last couple of months. Usually it would get better in itself in a few days. GP have treated her for UTI thrice suspecting it but all results came negative. Since last one month her frequent weeing has been constant and it is as frequent as every 20-30 mins. She has now started having day and night time accidents. Until a couple of weeks back, she was dry at nights too except one offs every couple of months which I know is normal. Diabetes has been ruled out. Ultrasound has come clear but the xray shows minor constipation and now we are on movicol for three months. It's been a week of movicol and she has had some large stools which is evidence that she was constipated but I am worried if this is actually the cause, it has left her with a uncontrolled bladder and she is rushing to the toilet every half an hour or so and sometimes she is just too tired or busy or urgency is so high that she cant go to the toilet and ends up with accidents. School is about to reopen and I am planning to speak to the teachers there but I am looking for any advice on how to make it better for her. Anyone with similar experience and can help with some advice please, that would be amazing. Thank you

Assuming nothing medical wring with bladder etc - It is likely constipation that is causing the wetting because the bladder and bowel sit so close together. The bowel puts pressure on the bladder but this isn't something she's likely to be able to feel or be conscious of. It also could be a little bit of her being 'busy' which is normal in a lot of kids that age. You're absolutely doing the right thing with Movicol - don't hold back on the dosage. In bad cases the bowel can stretch and it takes a while for it to shrink back to a normal size. The constipation might be caused by a number of things but commonly it's stool withholding and fear of going because it hurts. The Movicol will also help soften the stools up and give her confidence that it's not going to hurt when she goes. If you were referred to a continence service, they wouldn't even begin to look at wetting issues until they have resolved any sign of constipation for months. The hot weather over the summer makes the constipation worse, moderate the Movicol dosage, keep up the daily liquids. Check out the ERIC website for good habits on sitting on the toilet...she needs to be doing a type 4 or 5 poop a day ideally. Also get her to fully empty bladder 'do 2 wees' will help.

Have they actually examined her, as in, checked her actual physical structure downstairs? People think prolapse only happens to older women but urethral prolapse can occur in little girls and incontinence is one of the main symptoms. Probably isn’t this, because it’s not that common, so don’t mean to worry you but it just occurred to me with them not yet finding the cause. Constipation can make it worse. It’s caused by weak tissue and low oestrogen, can be brought on by coughing, impact (jumping for example) and sometimes just happens.

I don’t know if a GP will perform an intimate examination on a child as young as six but could you ask for them to refer her to a paediatric gynaecologist if this doesn’t resolve? A warm bath with Epsom salt can soothe a urethrocele, somewhat. I wonder if it’d be worth trying the bath to see if it makes a difference. If not, at least she’s had a nice bath. Hope it goes away soon, poor little lass. X

This, I'd be a bit worried about diabetes and it's really easy to check it.
