1 year MMR just before holiday

As the title says, my baby is having his 1 year MMR vaccines 10 days before we fly off on holiday. I thought this was good timing but I’ve recently read something to suggest that they usually get a reaction to it around 10 days after.

I have no recollection of if/how my older children reacted to theirs. Can anyone tell me their experiences? I’m thinking if he’s going to end up poorly abroad I might be better off postponing until we’re back?

Ours was hot/sick in night after theirs. Bit grumpy/clingy next day, but fine after that

I wouldn’t only because my little boy was quite unwell after the 10 days. I would always get it done if I was to have another child but I would just be wary of when he was having it done and make sure nothing big was coming up

Same. All reactions were done and dusted in 24 hours.

Ours was poorly the night she had it done, I remember it being the night from hell! But she was absolutely fine after that.

Never heard that one, like others a bit of a temperature straight afterwards but given calpol and absolutely fine afterwards.

We were lucky not to have any side effects. It was the easiest out of all the first year vaccinations.

Never had any delayed reactions with my son and jabs. If any reaction if was always within a few hours (temperature and crying).

TartanCulshie · 01/08/2025 06:53

My youngest just had his 12 month jags.

I was told to look out for 'mini mumps'and 'mini measles', which can appear after a week or so. I'd never been told of these before, and the others didn't get them. My nurse said she's just v through and explains everything!

We flew 4 days after and he's been fine.

I suppose you just keep an eye, but the greater good of the mmr far outweighs a grizzly night (in my opinion).

Happy holiday!!!

I wouldn’t risk it. Book for when you return. DS and Dd1 were fine with theirs but dd2 was very poorly for days.

My daughter got the measles rash 10 days post mmr both times but neither time was ill with it.

Workworkwork01 · 03/08/2025 20:02

I would move the vaccination. My DS was so poorly about 7 days after the jab, he had a fever above 40 for 5 days and a measles rash, was irritable and upset. Lots of babies from my NCT group have been the same about 7-10 days after the jab

Thanks all!
I’ve postponed until we are back home, as I’d get myself so worried being abroad in the heat with him if he ended up with a raging temp and under the weather x
