Can my baby come too?

My DD has surgery on Friday at Nuffield health, she’s five. Hopefully a straightforward procedure and expected to be daycase.

ive also got a 2 week old baby that’s breastfeeding. They’ve said on the leaflet that we were emailed today no siblings but doesn’t give any more information. I have emailed them asking if the baby can come but wondered if anyone had any experience?

we do have a backup plan in case they do say no though but fingers crossed she can attend.

I would be extremely surprised if they said no to bringing a breastfeeding newborn with you

Is there any way someone can come, take the newborn and just bring up for feeds when needed? If it's just going to be a day, that's not too much for them

I think they should let you bring a newborn, but I also think this is one point when your 5yo needs to feel they're the centre of your attention if possible.

MissHollysDolly · 28/07/2025 22:12

Yes, that should be fine

Wynter25 · 28/07/2025 22:13

I'd be surprised if they don't let you x

I would take them and use a sling if you can. What else are you supposed to do? They aren't exactly going to be running wild on the ward.

Hope it goes well.

I would expect this means don’t bring your other 3 kids and expect the nurses to take care of them. A BF newborn is a different matter although obviously do be prepared to take her out of the ward if crying as the kids there as patients will need quiet. Best to call and check but I would expect it to be a yes.

As an update they said no 🤦🏻‍♀️. My brother has kindly offered to sit in the carpark with her and I’ll pop out to feed her 💕

Oh 😟 I suppose they are worried about disturbing other patients. Good on your brother

That’s appalling. My eldest has a planned weeks admission for September my newborn will be coming with me for the daytime and then my husband will stay with my eldest at night and I will come home and have the newborn and middle child. I can’t expect anyone to sit with my breastfeeding newborn during the days for a week and tucked in a sling a newborn is hardly an issue.i certain Wouldn’t be bringing an older toddler/child with me though

I thought the same, my mum is having my 3 year old. They just said the rule wasn’t flexible. We’ve paid for a private room too so
i wouldn’t think she would disturb anyone

never mind!
