2yo female ND symptoms?

Hi, there is a strong family history of autism, ADHD and OCD in our family and DD2 is displaying some signs now (sensitivity to noise and bright colours, avoiding eye contact and interaction, taking herself away for long periods of solitary organisational play, joint hypermobility).

I would be grateful to hear from others symptoms they noticed at this stage. Thank you

I knew my DS was Autistic from about 9 months old. From the the minute he could sit up he was constantly stimming, avoided all eye contact, didn't answer to his name, he's 3 now and on the pathway for diagnosis but it's plainly obvious to everyone that he is ND. I myself have OCD and have for many years. Not sure it's relevant though but I amd others have often wondered whether I am in fact high functioning ASD. As like my son, I hate loud noises, bright lights, I'm very easily overwhelmed and have some sensory aversions. My son also does not talk and no hand gestures or anything. He also hurts himself on purpose, is very aggressive and hurts others, stims and needs routine. If your DD is indeed ND whether it be ASD or anything, believe me you will just know. Hope this helps.

If you have suspicions, go to your health visitor. They were invaluable, they did the GDA forms and referrals for me and it helped massively, we've been waiting a year now but we've had confirmation he is on th list awaiting appointment and diagnosis. The earlier you can get into the system, the better.

Thank you. She has her development review coming up this week so will bring it up. I have felt that there was something there for probably over a year - mainly the avoidance and lack of communication, even with close family. Then she didn't crawl and was sent for PT and diagnosed with hypermobility. The other signs were more recent.

@Sellingsunsets do you know what help they can give after assessment? I have friends whose children get SLT and PT but she doesn't need those atm - but probably good to be in the system as a precaution if she needs it

Regarding the SALT, it very much depends on what your DD can already do. If she has some language already they will work with her to improve it. My DS has no words or understanding of words so they haven't been able to help a great deal with that. My son has no hyper mobility so he doesnt have PT yet, but they are looking at getting him referred, he walks on tip toes only and obviously long term it's not good for his bones so looking at getting him some special shoes. Does your DD go to nursery? Our nursery has a SEN and they are ever so good and can put you in touch with the local authority who often have schemes going especially for support with children suspected having SEN. At her review mention everything and your health visitor will refer you to all the places you need to be right now. It does take time though.
