Mystery infection

baby has had a fever for 4 days then woke up this morning with a god awful rash all over his head, face, tummy and back. Took him to the doctors and he was unsure what to think of it, just that he has and infection so prescribed antibiotics for a mystery infection. I began to think he had measles but wasn’t sure, but now the rash seems to be getting worse and I don’t know what to do.

With that story, suggests roseola (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/roseola/) though many non-specific viral infections give a fever with rash. Measles is extremely unlikely unless you are unvaccinated and/or there is an outbreak locally to you.

My 7yr old gets a rash nearly every time he's poorly. Dr's say it's a viral rash. Its usually very dry and pinkish. I use child's farm unscented body cream and it always helps it. I've found that when he's unwell it can flare up eczema too and use the same cream. The only rash that was any different for us was when my little boy had scarlet fever but he was really poorly and had the other symtoms of strawberry tongue and high temp and red cheeks. The rash with this feels like sand paper but had no real colour with it. Hope they get better soon

Looks just like when my dd had roseola. Emergency GP didn't seem to know much about it but the symptoms fitted exactly.
