1 year vaccines

I try to avoid posts about the mmr or the 6 in 1 4th booster giving children autism. Seeing people post things saying how their child was babbling so much and full of light before and then not at all after etc
Its making me freak out and makes me feel light headed and scared to give my child the vaccines. I keep telling myself they are not linked but its so hard when so many people say it is. My child is up to date with all vaccines, it is there 1 year ones next but I'm slowly getting very scared to give it to them. I just need clarification but know I wont find it.

Well in my personal experience both of mine were absolutely fine afterwards and hit all their development milestones on time or early. Amazing speech.
I was more upset about the needle causing them pain but its over really quick.
There's been a lot of deaths from measles lately because uptake on the mmr is low. Even if mmr caused any neurodivergence, which i highly doubt it does, id still rather have an ND child than a dead one. mmr has been going for years now, if it was definitely this causing it it would have been proven by now.

nocoolnamesleft · 24/07/2025 00:19

MMR does not cause autism. There was an absolutely massive study in Scandinavia looking at this, millions of kids, and found no link. Measles on the other hand, that can definitely cause brain damage. I’ve never forgotten the teenager I helped care for who was dying from the profound brain damage caused by having caught measles as a toddler.

InMyHealthyEra · 24/07/2025 00:21

Both my children along with millions of others have had vaccinations that protect them from horrific and often fatal diseases. There is no link between vaccinations and autism or other developmental issues.

Remember you are not only protecting your child but also others who perhaps are unable to have it due to health conditions.

Perhaps give your GP a ring and share your concerns, they’ll be able to give you the truth.

Thank you, I know this inside I'm definitely not an antivaxxer but when you start getting hammered by stuff over and over it starts to make you question everything and doubt things

Thanks i have read about this study and I felt quite confident in the vaccines after but then last night I'm in bed scrolling and another video post showed of someone blaming the vaccine showing a before and after of their son..then I freaked out again

Thanks. Yes i will ring them. I would never leave my child unvaccinated as Would thrn have the fear of them catching something I could of helped them avoid. Im just now scared I will cause them hard by doing so. Love and hate social media at the same time.

‘A lot of deaths lately’ - what BS. One child in Liverpool in 2023 with a compromised immune system. Healthy well fed children very very rarely die of measles. We do however have an autoimmune disorder and autism epidemic

sexnotgenders · 24/07/2025 07:15

Who exactly is ‘hammering’ you with antivax stuff? Let me guess, it’s just some idiot on line, who you are choosing to believe above actual medical professionals. I’m sorry but parents on here who post this crap don’t get any gentle advice from me. You are being ridiculous. You are responsible for an actual human being now. Step up and parent properly. Starting with turning off social media. It’s toxic for you and your child.

You’ve set your algorithm to show you this stuff. That’s why you're seeing it. Not because it’s happening all the time.

BunnyRuddington · 24/07/2025 07:36

Agree that you’ve looked and looked again at this stuff and that’s why it’s showing you more.

Have a go at altering your algorithm next time you’re on SM. So if it shows you any anti-vax stuff say you’re not interested, if it gives you that option and definitely don’t watch it.

Instead, search for more positive things, things that you’re interested in and things that will help you day to day.

I have a go at searching for new things about once a month, especially on Insta and by and large my feed is quite positive. If you keep watching videos which are causing you to question research, then it’s just going to end in a big negative loop for you.

I’m old enough to remember life before MMR.

There were kids in schools that were viewed as “problems” and written off. From the schools I attended I wouldn’t say there was a modern epidemic of ASD, just that more get assessed and some get the support they need.

I have an eyesight problem due to having Measles and I’ve helped to look after a boy that was left blind, severely deaf and brain damaged through having the Measles, bedding 24 hour care for years.

I’m not sure why the focus is always on “there’s only been one death” when there’s the potential for life altering conditions for even previously healthy children.

BunnyRuddington · 24/07/2025 07:38

Have you watched The Insta Effect yet too @Lucy8507?

Its definitely made me cut down on SM and think more carefully about the algorithm.

BurntoutOverwhelmed · 24/07/2025 07:42

We split them up for dd and just did one at a time so we didn’t overwhelm her . The gp agreed due to her medical history. I know people say that the immune system encounters so much each day anyway and it won’t overwhelm it but even so to have on one day sudden exposure so many more serious sorts of illness via a vaccine seemed to much for my dd with her issues. I was prepared though to accept if the gp said it wasn’t an option but he listened and said it’s actually a sensible idea and would be completely appropriate. It’s just an option if you’re anxious as I’ve since heard of others doing it even if their child has no medical concerns

ShesTheAlbatross · 24/07/2025 07:49

I think if there is one thing we can be really really sure does not cause autism, it’s vaccines. The number of studies and the level of scrutiny is huge.

I came on to say the same.

Why would you believe a discredited and struck off doctor and random strangers with no medical qualifications over medical professionals?

SpringerLink · 24/07/2025 11:17

I'm going to offer a different kind of reassurance.

I have autism. So do all my children. We're all living our best lives, with loving family, great friends, I have a job I love, my eldest just finished school and is about to start college in September.

We were all autistic from the moment we were born. No matter what vaccines we had or didn't have, we'd still be autistic. Vaccines don't cause autism.

As other posters have suggested, you need to retrain your social media algorithm or get off social media and rely on reputation information sources. SM will do nothing for your anxiety.

andherewegoagainonmyown · 24/07/2025 15:30

Put your phone down for awhile. It’s really not helping

StrawberryCranberry · 24/07/2025 15:34

There has been SO much research into this, because of the Andrew Wakefield scandal, and none of the studies have shown a link. We don't know for sure what causes autism (likely a combination of factors, genetics are definitely part of it) but we do know it's not vaccines.

Jumpthewaves · 24/07/2025 15:36

It's not hard, all the science shows it's perfectly safe and the link with autism was nonsense that continues to be spouted by those with no understanding or knowledge whatsoever. Just book your child in and protect them from diseases that they have a real chance of being harmed from.

There were several children hospitalised with it in Liverpool though.
DD is doing placements in Liverpool hospitals and I knew about the measles epidemic before the news broke.

Sometimes I think even if there was a proven link, a tiny chance that in some cases vaccines could somehow cause it who would still look at that and think it was preferable to leave their child vulnerable to these illnesses and diseases that can be hideously painful , leave lasting severe physical issues or kill
them rather than risk autism? I know that’s not the case but just to think for a moment if it was vaccines would still be the better choice. I have dc with ASD as well so I know how difficult it makes life .

Definitely genetics in our case. I can even tell you which micro-deletion. So whether or not DC2 had the MMR, the diagnosis would have been the same.

Indeed, my aunt lost the sight in one eye as a result of measles. It can be extremely nasty.

Thank you I just needed people to tell me its OK as I'm an over thinker.
