Help DD swallow pills

DD is 11 and has been prescribed a course of antibiotics capsules. She’s never had pills before and is really struggling to swallow them.
we’ve tried leaning forward, using a straw and even have some tic taks to practise - but so far non have gone down.

Is there any other tips on how to help her before I have to go back to the doctor- I think it’s either this or IV and it’s a 12 week course so we really need to crack it soon.

With food if that’s allowed some antibiotics say not to take with food.

Please don’t open capsules or cut them up. Capsules are designed to break down in the stomach and release the drug in a timed way. As are tablets.
Drug companies don’t make them in these formats for shits and giggles.

Not always it depends on the medication. I've been advised to do this with some meds in the past, but you are right with some you really shouldn't either because the contents shouldn't come into contact with the throat, or because they are slow release etc. If you want to try this OP check with a pharmacist first.

Water in mouth first then pill in mouth push to back of mouth with tongue then swallow. Don’t spit out of it doesn’t go down just keep drinking water till it does

I chew up some food and put it in the middle just before I swallow it

Pinch her nose to open her mouth. Put the pill in, and give her something to drink. You could try stroking her throat.

If she really cannot swallow, please do not force her, because there are liquid antibiotics. Ask your doctor.

I can add that when I had a bladder/kidney infection earlier in the year, the doctor prescribed a powder to be dissolved in water, just two sachets, the second to be taken 72 hours after the first. The condition cleared up right away.

I am sure there must be similar for whatever infection your daughter has. You don't have to frighten her, but at her age she should learn the importance of taking prescribed medicine.

Put it in a small spoonful of peanut butter or jam followed up with a glass of water

I would get advice from my local pharmacy. They are the drug people. I forgot what medication it was, but my grandmother had trouble with a particular pill. The pharmacist said we can crush it and sprinkle it in her food. She hated the taste, but she needed the medication.
