my dd is 8 weeks old and is under the care of a pediatrician and dietrician due to very slow growth and potential cmpa. She weighs 2.5 kg ( was 2.1 at birth)
i saw the consultant and dietician last week and we made a plan - if she didn’t gain enough weight in the week then she would change to a different milk and regardless of weight gain we would have a review with the dietician to discuss things tomorrow and a follow up with the consultant in 2 weeks when she is back from holiday.
fast forward a week and she has gained almost no weight in the week so I spoke with the dietician on the phone yesterday, we agreed we are changing the milk and I am going in tomorrow to see her (as per the original plan) and collect the new milk.
i just had a phone call from the dietician department saying that the appointment with the dietician tomorrow will now be with the consultant ( a different one because the normal one is on leave). our normal dietician is not working today but will come to the appointment with the consultant tomorrow.
tbh I am now quite worried there was no mention of needing to see a consultant, either when the original plan was made or when I spoke with the dietician yesterday. It’s making me think they have seen the weight gain results and think it’s something to worry about. The normal consultant gave me the impression that there was no need to worry unless she started losing weight or became otherwise unwell ( which I don’t think she has)
its great that we are able to see a consultant so quickly but I am now worried there is something to worry about and the normal people I deal with at the hospital are not there today to ask.
is there anyone here who has had similar experience or who works in a hospital environment.. is it just standard practice to review each case with the consultant or is it more likely the dietician has raised a concern and now they want to check in?
i know I will find out tomorrow but am now sat here worrying today.
