Is this a tonight emergency or can it wait to tomorrow?

A bit of background, 4 Yr old came home last Sunday from dad's, gunky knee, cleaned, washed and dressed. Monday it popped, went to MIU confirmed he had something stuck in it. They used Duoderm and told us to come back Thursday. Forward to Thursday, they have confirmed everything is out and it should all scab over and be fine etc. However since Friday morning, these spots have started to appear. Some blister like, some puss filled. Its gotten warm over the last 24hr also. He complains it stings, I've been cleaning with a warm flannel etc. Hes currently sound asleep for the first time in days, so don't wanna disturb if I dont have to. The green line is so I can monitor whether its spreading also. The other imagine is thursday evening after the dressing came off.

Is your DS temperature raised or just his knee area? If he hasn't got a raised temperature I would take him first thing in the AM when he wakes up. I'd actually call 111 now so they can make you a really early appt at either a minor injuries or OOH.

His temp is 36.3, so that is all good. Just the area around the knee that is warm and that has happened over the last 12-24hrs. Hes happily asleep, so I'm leaning towards just booking him an appointment tomorrow.

Could well be impetigo which can be treated quite quickly with an ointment and sometimes oral antibiotics

Defo not an A&E trip , doctors trip tomorrow will be more appropriate x

Pharmacy will be your best bet they can diagnose and treat

Does look like it has got infected, and probably needs antibiotics. That's going to be outside the prescribing powers of a pharmacist. Either GP OOH (usually accessed via 111) or A&E (unless you have a local minor injuries unit).

Hi Guys, took him to our local miu this morning. Confirmed skin infection and antibiotics on board now. Dressing changes every 6hrs and we're too keep an eye if it doesn't get better.

Pharmacists can prescribe antibiotics

Pharmacists can prescribe antibiotics

Only in very clearly described and circumscribed situations. Whereas doctors can prescribe in a much wider remit.
