DD 14 has inflammation in bowel

DD (14) has not been well for a long while. She gets tummy aches and nausea and is extremely tired all the time.
I remember her getting tummy aches and a lot over the past few years.
Shes not eating well as it's worse after eating.
Finally, gp did some tests and her stool test came back high which she said means her bowel in inflamed.

We have been referred to the children's hospital ( waiting for appointment date) and i am wondering if anyone has been through this.

I understand one main cause is IBD but we obviously can't get a diagnosis before further tests.
I guess this is suspected if she's been referred to the nearest children's hospital rather than our local general.

Any advice on how I explain to DD and any advice for how we deal with it as a family?
I haven't told her yet ( apart from she might see another doctor).
Shes quite mature for her age but worried she'll start googling and worrying if I tell her what the GP said.

Just to add that her 2nd stool sample for infection was clear.

Did she have a faecal calprotectin test? At least you have a referral, don't read into anything and just tell her the truth, her GP can't solve her tummy aches and wants her to see the specialists.
The hospital will probably repeat the test and do some bloods to decide what's next.
Its hard, but take it one step at a time.

CiCRA is great for information on IBD. This is for children with crohns or colitis. Crohns and colitis UK is anyone to lok for information, but CICRA can help with how to deal with info with schools etc.
There is a great facebook group to I think it's kids with crohns and colitis UK. But make sure it's a UK group as treatment in other countries can vary.

My son was diagnosed 2ith crohns when he was 8, he is now 24, so we have been dealing with it for a lot of years. He is doing incredibly on treatment, and works full time.

The first step will be a colonoscopy ( under a GA) where they will check for inflammation and take biopsies. Once a diagnoises is made you will be then given a treatment plan.

Fell free to PM me if you feel I can help. Good luck with it all

Thank you both. Yes, she had the calprotin? Test. Thanks for pointing me in the direction. Of support if it comes to that.
