Nappy Rash 5wk old

Hi all,

I have a 5wk old baby boy who has been suffering with nappy rash for a few weeks. I have tried everything metanium, sudocream, Vaseline, medihoney which was recommended by a paediatrician when I brought him to A&E for something else and I think this actually made it worse. Our GP prescribed fucidin which did improve it a bit as it got really quite awful one day, however it hasn’t improved it significantly nor cleared it. I also try and let him have as much nappy free time as possible.

Has anyone got any suggestions for me to try before I go back to the GP? I queried with HV and paediatrician at A&E if it could be thrush and they told me no because it’s not in the creases. Feel so bad for the little guy.

TIA! Xx

How is he being fed? If breastfed I would maybe try an elimination diet or if formula ask about cmpa. It sounds like you are doing a lot for it so maybe it worth looking into at a different angle.
The purple weleda cream is amazing for us but I can’t say my baby ever had nappy rash so young (always teething poos that caused it for us).
Also I’m sure you have already but nappy free time to air it out. Maybe look at switching up nappy brands or borrow some cloth nappies from a nappy library if you think it’s something external causing it.

Sudosalve worked for us or also medi derma s cream after each nappy change (I’m not a medical professional though but just saying what helped my LO when all the other creams didn’t!).

Are you using baby wipes? If you are I would try cotton wool and water or even better reusable cotton wipes and water. With any creams only apply the thinnest layer against the skin, too thick and it ends up blocking the nappies absorption allowing the moisture to sit against the skin.
like you are doing lots of nappy free time and start to look into any potential intolerance as pp mentioned

You can clean with cream instead of water, such as zerobase as or even use olive oil.
