I dont know if this is the right place to post but we have been using the lacura sun dry mist SPF 50 from Aldi for the weekend. My two youngest have gotten so burnt even though we sprayed them head to toe with it. I hear other families are the same. Both look like they didnt even have sun cream on. I have seen on fackbook we are not the only ones

Silly question but are you rubbing it in?

LeesFarm · 13/07/2025 21:54

No we hadnt been just spraying it on and leaving it dry. Used it last year and we never rubbed it in

It’s a well rated one too. How long were they out and was it reapplied?
if they burn in say 2 mins with no spf it's only going to give them 100 mins of protection

LeesFarm · 13/07/2025 21:58

They have been in the garden all day in the paddling pool say 10 to just gone 6. I put it on them every 90 mins or so and made sure they were both dry

Generally I love Aldi, but the one time I tried this (used it on myself too), it ate my toenail polish. Hard to explain but it destroyed the polish. I don't know why and I've never found another sunscreen to do that. Never used it again, on me or my children.

londongirl12 · 13/07/2025 22:00

you have to spray a lot of it to be fully covered. Do you spray it inside too? It blows away outside.

randoname · 13/07/2025 22:01

Is it the same bottle as last year?
Apparently they do lose effectiveness which is assumed was a marketing tactic but maybe it’s true.

Brokenforsummer · 13/07/2025 22:04

I haven’t had any issues with it but I do find you need a lot of it to be fully covered. I can also see it on the skin. Did it definitley come out of the bottle?

@SharpLily all suncream does this but with the spray it’s more likely to go onto your nail varnish than using a cream.

I have never had this with any other suncream, and I'm 50, pale skinned and live in Spain so I use plenty of it.

No brand new bottles, which I got on Friday, and it was factor 50, so very strange they got burnt. My neighbours kids (not in the same place) have lines of being burnt when they were at the beach

Brokenforsummer · 13/07/2025 22:11

You should contact aldi and let them know of the issue.

dementedpixie · 13/07/2025 22:13

Did you not get them to put tops on when they started getting pink? Why were they out in the middle of the day with the highest UV?
Water and drying with a towel will not have helped either. Did you apply a thick enough layer?

Pyjamatimenow · 13/07/2025 22:14

We’ve been using it the last few days. Nobody is burnt and we’re fair skinned. I do spray it on like I would a spray tan though and I reapply

LeesFarm · 13/07/2025 22:15

@dementedpixie They are kids what do you want me to do force them inside when its already a hot day and tell them they cant play in the pool...Please do be real. Of course we put more cream on when they got red in the evening

We use this and have never had any issues with it at all. We do always rub it in though, partly to ensure even coverage and partly to make sure it's absorbed - I think this is where your issue might have arisen. Especially as it's been so hot this weekend, if you've just sprayed it on and waited for it to dry then a significant proportion of it has quite possibly just evaporated without doing anything.

shootingstar1 · 13/07/2025 22:21

I used this on holiday recently . Applied every 1.5 hours or more often and still managed to get burnt. I did exactly what it said on the can.
I then used the Lidl alternative the next day and it was lots better. However I am going to stick to creams in future . The spray doesn’t last and I prefer knowing that I have managed to apply it all over .

LeesFarm · 13/07/2025 22:22

We are going back to creams too

dementedpixie · 13/07/2025 22:22

They could have had tops on in the pool
Better than just letting them burn

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 13/07/2025 22:23

You are still supposed to run it in and you should be reapplying at least once an hour, more of they are in and out the water.

I have been using the same stuff for weeks it 32+ heat here and we used last years version on holiday on 38+ heat.

If applied correctly we haven't burnt. Im sorry. But spraying it, leaving it to dry and not reapplying often enough is the issue, not the product.

ExplodingCarrots · 13/07/2025 22:24

I'm extremely fair and burn easily and I've been using this lately and havnt burnt at all . I've been really impressed by it . I'm surprised to hear loads of negative stories about it .

Brokenforsummer · 14/07/2025 06:52

Are you saying you saw your children were burnt and you let them stay in the sun longer? 😱

OnlyYellowRoses · 14/07/2025 07:20

No issues here. Took 3 x cans to the Dominican with us in +35 degree heat and no one burnt?

OtterMummy2024 · 14/07/2025 07:42

I often burn when I use spray mist sunscreen, I've had to go back to cream if I'm going to be outside for more than half an hour. That said, I use the Soltan sensitive spray SPF 50 on my toddler. It's a white cream and you can definitely see where you've put it before you rub it in.

OtterMummy2024 · 14/07/2025 07:44

@Brokenforsummer Sunburn can show up with a delay for some people, I'm definitely one of them! I look okay at the time and then come out bright pink in the evening.

InfoSecInTheCity · 14/07/2025 07:59

My DH and DD are both fair and use the Aldi factor 50 mist spray with no issue. You do have to make sure it’s a good coverage and rubbed in still
