What is on my daughters wrist?

Any idea what this is? Worried it could be contagious due to having a young baby at home. It's not irritating her at all.

Looks like shingles, is she well or a bit poorly?

FionnulaTheCooler · 11/07/2025 21:36

Could just be a heat rash but I'd probably try to get a pharmacist to see her in the morning to see what they think.

Satisfiedkitty · 11/07/2025 21:37

My first thought was shingles.

Did she have chickenpox as a baby?

SophiaSW1 · 11/07/2025 21:40

The rash itself looks very much like shingles but it would be unusual to have it present on the wrist.

MoominUnderWater · 11/07/2025 21:40

It does look like shingles. Although I thought there was always some discomfort with shingles?

SophiaSW1 · 11/07/2025 21:41

But if it’s not bothering her it’s also unlikely to be shingles

MoominUnderWater · 11/07/2025 21:43

ChatGPT says it’s not shingles 😀. Reckons it’s more likely eczema, contact dermatitis or possibly ringworm. 🤷‍♀️

Sleepeazie · 11/07/2025 21:45

Looks like contact dermatitis to me. But I’d definitely get a child checked out regardless

OutingHobbyWife · 11/07/2025 22:36

Does she wear a watch or maybe some kind of wrist band? I get a rash like that if I use the silicone strap for my Fitbit when it's hot.

MrsMAFs · 11/07/2025 22:38

Has she been near any nettles? My brother used to go a bit like that from nettles.

Maybe you should have zoomed in before asking a bot.

NotrialNodeal · 11/07/2025 22:43

Looks like herpes to me weird place for it but that's what it looks like to me.

Notaripoff · 11/07/2025 22:43

Hand, foot and mouth?

Saisong · 11/07/2025 22:45

My son had shingles on his back at 18 months and was barely bothered by it. Still has the scars 15 years later though!

This is what I am so so nervous about as I have a young baby at home. However, when I press down on it, it disappears and isn't fluid filled. Oh dear!

Thinking about it if she's never had herpes she would be very unwell if this was herpes and the first time. So if she's well in herself it probably isn't that unless of course you know she's had herpes before.

If it's not fluid filled it's not going to be herpes I don't think so don't panic. Treat it like it is contagious just to be safe ie hand washing and keeping your daughters arm away from the baby. Get a gp to look at it or out of hours if you're really concerned especially if she's unwell with it. Didn't mean to worry you BTW

Thedoorisalwaysopen · 11/07/2025 23:04

Following with interest as I developed the exact same thing a couple of days ag and also a small patch on my face. I thought it was a heat rash.

justasking111 · 11/07/2025 23:10

I've seen it before, caused by a plant whose name escapes me just now. Do you have a houseplant or has she been roaming outside?

Artesia · 11/07/2025 23:14

@justasking111- are you thinking of giant hogweed?

rainbowruthie · 11/07/2025 23:18

Impetigo?

God no. That one is awful.

Even sap from a wee plant being mowed when you cut the grass can cause it..

I'll attach a list. Sunlight can make some rashes worse too. Antihistamines can help.

Thank you so much everyone for responding and offering ideas.

We went to the pharmacy and they were fairly confident it was a form of dermatitis, perhaps a reaction to something in our garden. They said as long as it's not bothering her, we don't need to do anything but if it starts to itch or spread to come back
