Major nappy rash

Hi guys!

my 11 month old has recently finished a course of amoxicillin for an infection which has been awful for him as it affected his ears throat and chest! Anyway….

in the last day or 2 he’s developed an horrific nappy rash! Very angry looking and bright red. He’s constantly screaming with it and goes mad when I change his bottom.

im currently applying metanium and having plenty of nappy free time but it seems to be getting worse as opposed to better!

he has been pooing a hell of a lot but I’m guessing this is to do with the antibiotics.

im just after some additional tips if anyone has any as I feel so sorry for my poor boy! Any help would be appreciated!

thanks for reading!

The thing I found worked best, but was hardest to do, was loads of nappy free time. We used puppy training pads. But mine wasn't mobile at that point!

When we had similar, DD spent most of a couple of days in the (tiled) bathroom, so no nappy and a nice cool surface for her to sit on.

It was NOT FUN, but did the trick.

Rinse his bottom as best you can after every pea & poo with tepid water. Pat dry.
Don’t use wet wipes to clean him. Those things are diabolical and sting, unless you’re out and about with no access to water.
As others have said, leave nappy off as much as possible.
Get him nappy-less out into the fresh air.

It might be thrush! My baby had horrendous nappy rash after antibiotics and nothing was working. Took her to a wonderful pharmacist who said to use 1% thrush cream and only wipe using cotton pads and olive oil. Ilsaw a difference in 24hrs.
Most nappy rashs are thrush apparently! We now have a spare tube just in case

It will be thrush, very common after antibiotics. Your HV should be able to prescribe an anti fungal.

Sprilon spray which is designed for bedsores is amazing.

Fungal would fit with antibiotics- common for women to get thrush after.
Id take advantage of the warm weather as well to give plenty of nappy off time and water to clean.

There is a combination antibiotic anti fungal cream, Fucidin something.

Clean with warm water with a teaspoon of bicarb dissolved in it. Helps fast!
