Hypermobile child - advice needed

How do you support your child in getting stronger, fitter and more confident in ability? Are there any sports or exercises that have worked well?

My child is 6 and keeps saying he is the slowest, and isn’t confident… loves football but is too afraid of getting hurt to get involved, even going to new parks needs to build up the courage to try and new climbing frame as worried he won’t be able to do it…

He’s had physio, has insoles, we try and keep him as active as possible.

Any advice would be great. Thank you!

When mu son was you age he had physio, hydrotherapy and occupational therapy. He was offered special bike lessons but refused so he has never been able to ride a bike. I think just keep up with the strengthening exercises.
DS was never very social (also has ASD) so did not want to do team spots. He does however enjoy climbing - I think because he could do it at his own pace plus being a bit flexible is a plus! At your sons age I used to take mine to clip and climb.

I think you'll need to work harder to find an activity he can enjoy. Maybe he doesn't like team sports but you can look at children's yoga, horse riding, swimming, dancing for example. Or if he does enjoy team activities you can find something gentler that he can keep up with? Walking groups, orienteering?

The important thing is that you've recognised the need to keep working on muscle tone without exposing his vulnerabilities.
