Broken finger?

My 4 year old was at preschool yesterday and one of the other children sat on her finger whilst they were on the mat by accident, she said it hurt going to bed last night and I noticed it had swollen. She can move it normally but says it hurts... It does feel pretty tight. Would you take her to urgent care? I've had a look online and it says there's not much that can be done but I'm worried as the swelling didn't go down much overnight even after putting ice on it... What would you do?

I dislocated a finger and thinking it was "only" a finger put off going to minor injuries until the following day (becuase at the time it would have meant A&E due to minor injuries' opening hours.

I was properly told off for delaying and am still having regular visits a to hand therapy, a year on, to try and fix the ligament damage.

So, whilst I think you'd know if it was broken or dislocated, I would go because they do seem to take finger injuries much more seriously than I expected.

Have you given them any anti inflammatory and pain killers?
Yes take them if you are concerned but, ime with DS broken finger, all they do is tape it to the next finger for two weeks, but they should be more comfortable with anti inflammatory meds and a pain killer.

Yes you should definitely go if there is any concern. Minor injuries would be appropriate here. Be sure it is somewhere that treats children and has xray. If there is a fracture they treat it very seriously to make sure it sets correctly.

They don't recommend anti inflammatory anymore but I would give her Calpol. Ring 111, they will triage and get you into a minor injury unit.

Possibly a sprain/soft tissue injury, it doesn't take much for a finger to become swollen.

Definitely take her to a walk in centre/A&E , they will likely x-ray it to be sure, worth it for peace of mind, even if it's just a case of resting it while it heals.
