i gave 6 movicol sachet today, do you think that will break it or I need to go full disimpaction. He was regular before these 4 days 😢

I'd call 111 for advice before doing anything.

justkeepswimingswiming · 23/06/2025 13:49

Full disimpaction. Maybe with a stimulant like pico sulphate alongside.

I can’t recall the dosage for ‘clear out’ does it say on the pack? How old is your child?

GoldDuster · 23/06/2025 13:54

Get them to drink loads of fluid, likely to be dehydrated as it's been so warm unless they're a champion water drinker, while you wait for advice from 111.

They asked to disimpact but issue he is not impacted he just have dried poo at rectum and scared to pass it. We done suppository and 8 sachet movicol and it came out but now he is having watery diarrhoe 🥲 because he was never impacted it was just that plug
we meant to tapper it down but because he is going 5 times and passing water. I had to pause and give him break and maybe start tomorrow from two sachet to taper it down

Very often diarrhoea flows around an impaction or blockage at the exit.

parietal · 28/06/2025 15:52

how do you know he is not impacted? if he is scared to go and hasn't had a regular poo, there is probably still a big blockage.

DramaQueenlady · 28/06/2025 18:59

Movical to a 4 year old. I think you need to seek urgent medical care for your child. Recommend does is 1 or 2 for age 6 plus. You've given him 8. Bloody hell!.

I don’t think the child is 4, OP hasn’t said

PinotPony · 28/06/2025 19:05

6 sachets?! The dose guidelines are 1 sachet a day (up to 4 times a day if recommended by a doctor) for children under five.

Stop buggering about with your poor child’s digestion and take him to the GP!

caringcarer · 28/06/2025 19:34

I think you've overdosed him on the Movical.

Leo800 · 28/06/2025 19:46

You’ve given him way too much. It could lead to a very messy evening.

LividVermiciousKnid · 28/06/2025 19:52

Nah my kid was prescribed up to 12 a day.

(And easier said than done as he detected them in every format…)

Theunamedcat · 28/06/2025 19:52

Really? My GP gave my son 8 sachets a day when he was constipated

You're right, my mistake sorry

cannotbetooarsed · 28/06/2025 20:06

8 sachets a day is standard procedure for my granddaughter when she is constipated. Unfortunately happens often due to medical issues.

Realistrealm · 28/06/2025 20:48

I only disimpacted after taking him A&e and then gp. Now he is poooing regular and he is only in one sachet a day. I was right he wasn’t impacted he was just scared to pass the poo sitting in his rectum. Suppository would have sorted him out. I didn’t need to go up to 8 sachet poor child. He is 6 years old x
