Eczema on baby

What is the best most suitable cream to help eczema patches on a 7m old baby?
She has patches of it on her arms, legs and torso which don’t seem to bother her and they’re not cracked, just dry and a bit red, but I want to treat it before it gets worse.

Lots of conflicting info online of what’s suitable and what isn’t deemed as suitable these days!

Thanks!

truthfully? they are all the same. They hydrate but don’t solve the underlying problem which is gut bacteria.

The one thing that is so so so so important is to only use hypoallergenic creams so you don’t trigger food allergies. the ones with nut oils, milk and other top allergens are a really bad idea. I used an expensive organic “natural” one with sesame in it and i think that’s why my child developed a sesame allergy as she’d had no other contact with sesame. So watch out for that kind of thing.

I would say different solutions suit different babies, we used Zerobase as recommended by doctor, it was ok but no panacea and I hated the smell, Aveeno was not that effective for our baby and we tried a number of others I can't remember from pharmacies, in the end the best we found was a mineral wash and emollient formulated by a pharmacy in a small spa village we visited on holiday so the following time we visited we stocked up. Also swapping cows milk for goats helped a lot but I guess your baby is not on animal milk yet, are you breastfeeding?

Have you spoken to GP/HV about it?

Neweverything25 · 08/06/2025 15:01

Sorry for multiple posting ... Also they said bathing only whe needed or every few days, not every day and then using only water with oats in a muslin. They also gave us an emollient in a pale green bottle to put in bath that worked for a while.

@muggart thank you, that’s great advice, I didn’t know that about allergies!

@Neweverything25 thank you, I suppose it’s trial and error then. I am breastfeeding but could there be something I am consuming that goes in my milk causing it?
I haven’t spoken to a health professional yet as it isn’t “that” bad and doesn’t seem to bother her.
We don’t bath her every day anyway, but I haven’t heard about the oats thing, I’ll give that a go! Thank you

Vaseline is great for mild eczema, hydrates the skin and creates a skin barrier.

Hi again, I have heard a few people say to avoid cows milk yourself if BF but if it's not severe I wouldn't worry too much, I hope it gets better! I guess as long as it doesn't bother her and cause her to scratch it's hopefully ok!
