My daughter has had on going stomach problems/pain for a year.
we have been directed to a children’s hospital now rather than the local hospital. We have had scans texts barium swallow test x rays, allergy tests
now her periods are becoming very painful as well. She has had lots of different medication which I feel slightly uncomfortable about because she is only 14.
they say it could be IBS but not sure checking for ulcers tried stomach migraines . I am so worried they stopped her playing sport.
we are waiting for a further scan as she has not had one for several months incase anything has changed also a endoscopy.
the paediatrician has prescribed codeine now . Only when the pain is extreme and only 1 tablet she said we don’t want her to have many. This worries me as well yet more medication . Any of your children taken codeine.
Any advice or just a chat I am so worried for her

Yes it could be endometriosis but you will likely have to really push to get them to check for this as it needs a laparoscopy.

Don’t let them decide “IBS” until they’ve ruled everything out. It’s diagnosis of exclusion. Also IBS is not stomach, it’s bowel. And the symptoms are quite specific. You get, often severe. bloating accompanied by pain shortly after eating which can last for hours - as it gets worse this can end up being most of the time.. It’s cramping and trapped wind pains which can be severe. And it’s accompanied by constipation and/or diarrhoea - not necessarily at the same time as the bloating. I get cross when medical professionals decide IBS because they can’t work out what’s going on when the symptoms don’t even look like IBS. I get even more cross when they jump to ibs without ruling everything else out first.

That’s really interesting thank you. My dd has had the codeine today and it did not make any difference. Her period is normal regarding bleeding but the last times it has been really painful. For the last year she has had a constant pain but it can get really severe where it can hurt when she walks and feels sick
