Support Groups for possible cancer DS14

My DS has been referred for an urgent scan after he found a lump down there. It's all happened so quickly from telling us Wednesday to now waiting for an urgent ultrasound, which can be up to two weeks. My mind is racing, and I am desperate for information. Is there any Facebook or groups here to discuss?

I did post earlier in the child cancer section but my post hasn't gotten much traffic. I hope it is better. Really sorry, I am devastated, I'm trying to hide my anxiety from DS he is understandably anxious and worried. My mind is racing.

This is one of the more established nationwide charities for supporting children/young people, and their families. If your DS is diagnosed, usually the team at the Primary Treatment Centre can give info about support groups. Has he been seen by anyone in secondary care, yet, or is this all being managed by the GP so far?

Okay. Well done for paying attention, and getting him to the GP. Fingers crossed that this turns out to be one of the random lumps and bumps that testicles are prone to, rather than actually testicular cancer. It is likely that if your GP felt that the bump had felt really convincingly bad, then there'd have been a phonecall up to the hospital to get a rapid clinical review as well, rather than just requesting an urgent scan. But an ultrasound should really make things a lot clearer, so fingers crossed that's pretty soon. If this does turn out to be cancer, the outcomes are usually really good, but would involve surgery. What I would say is that if this does turn out to be bad news, the wheels of the NHS tend to turn rather faster for children with cancer than for adults, so if needed things should happen pretty fast. Fingers firmly crossed none of that is needed.

Thank you so much! I really hope it’s just a sperm blockage or similar x

I can imagine where your mind's going op.
A consultant told my dp that testicular cancer is one of the most curable ones, something like 97+% recovery. And it's a good one in terms of surgery/recovery too.

Try to get some sleep. Rest quietly if you can't sleep. Try and eat something. Plenty of cuppas.

Early morning reassuring hugs <>

This happened to my then 16 yr old. The lump was a cyst. The likelihood your DS has cancer is actually very small and much more likely it's something benign. Don't worry before you need to he will pick up on it.

The GP words are going round and round. The best outcome will be a sperm crystal not sure what’s they would even do for that.

They wouldn't do anything for a sperm crystal the body sorts that out. They don't do anything for cysts either. I suspect most benign problems are left. If you're beside yourself book a private scan if you can afford one. You'll be seen in a couple of days. As I've said the odds of this being cancer are very very very low. I can't get the data for UK as I can't zoom in well enough but in aus the overall rate of testicular cancer for all males is 6.4/100000 men. So a risk of 0.0064% ove lifetime. Testicular cancer in the under 15s is much much lower than that. His risk of this being cancer is tiny!!
