Fibre supplement for children? (UK)

Hello,

I wondered if anybody had any recommendations for a fibre supplement that they have used (either over the counter or via prescription) for a child.

My 3yo DS has problems pooing - it is often hard and he struggles to get it out. He's been prescribed Laxido on repeat for a while now, which make his poo very loose but easier for him to get out - which was fine when he was in nappies but now he's toilet trained, loose poo is not quite as nice to clean up (either from his bum or from his clothes if he has an accident). We tried reducing the Laxido doses some days but now he hates going for a poo, I guess because it's difficult and/or painful.

I was thinking maybe he isn't getting enough fibre in his diet, and fibre tablets have helped me loads in this regard. I do try to give him more fruit and veg but it's hard because (a) he's 3 and has his own opinions on food lol, and (b) there's only so much eating time between getting home from nursery and bedtime.

I will ask GP for advice too, just sat at work thinking about it and thought I'd ask mumsnet for any recommendations.

Thanks!

I think children can take Fybogel but a GP has to ok it first at that age.

I was recommended Weetabix as a way to keep my baby regular (we had trouble with weaning constipation and used Lactulose for that on a tapering dose); but I'm sure you're already an expert on what you can give diet-wise.
