Lip frenulum tear

My baby (14m) fell and tore her top lip frenulum. There was some bleeding but it settled after a breastfeed and she hasn’t seemed bothered by it since. It looks like it’s going to heal separated rather than reattach, Google seems to say that’s the case. I’m just wondering if there will be any ill effects from this, if anyone has had this happen to them or their child?

OP,
I have given some thought to whether to post this.
The tear will probably heal well, but you should probably be aware that, should you seek medical advice, it is a red flag for Non Accidental Injury. It will be considered.

This is more worrisome though, to HCPs if the infant is non mobile; I'm assuming your LO is walking crawling?
Hoping all is innocent, and your LO has a speedy recovery. X

You need to take baby to get checked out.

My son did this during covid pulling himself up on the edge of the coffee table. No option for medical attention and it healed fine.
It’s a flag for abuse in a non-mobile baby, not in a 14 month old!

Thanks for your reply. I did read that as well when I googled her injury, which is very sad. She’s walking very well but obviously still not completely sturdy, so she fell face first into a low wall. It must have been an awkward angle that somehow pulled it, I only saw it happen from the back of her head view.

I know HVs are normally very hot on this stuff, have had my oldest at A&E once and was quizzed on the phone by HV! I’m glad though if it protects children that aren’t loved like mine

Of course it's a red flag for an immobile baby. They'd have to be smashed in the face. For a toddler, it's almost a right of passage. Pulling up and slipping, balance bike crash etc., it's going to happen.

@SupposesRoses
thank you for answering my question! Glad your little one healed ok, that’s reassuring
