Hives?

My 7 month old keeps coming out with this rash during meal times. I can’t pin point what is causing it.

He is teething but the teething rash is limited to his cheeks.

Picture added. This goes down within half hour to an hour

Hives?

I wouldn't call that hives, hives are like raised welts in the skin. He looks very warm though! Is he on purees or BLW?

A mixture of puree and BLW. Seems to come out during meal times only, I didn’t think hives, but no idea what else it could be!

What is he eating? Are you cooking his food from scratch? I would keep a food diary and write down everything he eats. He's having a reaction to something. Have you spoken to your HV or GP? At 7 months you should introduce new foods 1 at a time.

I would second what pp said, do only 1 food item per meal time to try and get to the bottom of it.

Mostly from scratch but the odd pouch here and there! I think thats my issue, we have introduced quite a lot of foods. Not excessive but enough to not know the trigger.

HV has been pants, GP too! He has had a really rough start with colic & reflux so we are regulars to both of them😔

Remember food before 1 is just for fun. He's getting the nutrition he needs from his milk.

I'd go back to basics. I'd start introducing individual vegetables. I would do one veg for two days and then if no reaction add the next one. You need to keep a food and reaction diary. You might want to put a bit of vasaline on his face to stop contact dermatitis.

You could consider allergy testing. I think it's around £200 - £300.

My nephew has a CMPA (cows milk protein allergy). He was diagnosed from when he was a tiny baby. He got a rash. wheezing, bloating ect.

I know a couple of people whose toddlers had a reaction like this with tomatoes - it was a contact reaction due to the acidity on their skin rather than an actual allergy. My dd had the same one time after smearing a blueberry pouch all over her face but has never reacted since eating them whole/squashed.

My niece got a bit like this when her parents were a bit too on the ball with wiping her face between bites - reaction to wipes.

I definitely agree with others though that it’s worth introducing foods gradually and monitoring and noting any reactions to try and find the cause

My LO gets this quite a lot, and we’ve had allergy testing and she’s only allergic to eggs (which was a really obvious reaction).

Otherwisr, she just has sensitive skin and is quite sensitive to high histamine foods.

Our Consultant said unless she has hives or other allergy signs, it’s best to keep all the food in the diet
