Complaints about eyes, 2.5yo

It started about a month ago when my 2.5yo started complaining of his tummy hurting, but it never really amounted to anything. Then he also started complaining about his eyes. He seems in discomfort when falling asleep and would complain thst his eyes are closing and that they are sore. It was here and there but this last week we had a lot of these complaints. Yesterday he complained about both eyes and tummy hurting. Today he was saying he couldn't open his eyes. About 5 mins in, he is fine and playing and himself. Additionally, I think he squints sometimes at the telly but usually when ther is a lot of extra bright light around and occaisionly brings his hands to his eyes or eyelashes to rub or touch.

We are booked in to see the GP but I also know that sometimes these sort of complaints could be related to a brain tumour. He hasn't vomited in the mornings but I wonder if occasional tummy pain in the morning is in fact nausea.

The worry is hitting me hard... there has been several things recently, but it is so much worse when it is about your child.

Has he been to see an optician?

No, we are due to see the GP to ask for referral next week.

It was the HV that did basic eye tests on my toddlers. Have you actually spoken to an optician to see if they will see him?

I would go to the opticians as soon as you can, rather than waiting. Phone arou d your area and see who has a gap.

Go to an opticians. There are some local to me that specialise in children, just see what’s in your area. A referral, if you get one, can take months.

Rather than leaping to brain tumour, look at how migraine presents in young children - sickness, nausea, visual disturbance.

But absolutely get his eyes tested.

I used to look after a 3 year old who suffered with childhood migraines, symptoms were pain behind eyes, disturbed vision and sickness. Just a thought.
