ive contacted the GP. Said she doesn’t know what it is but not worried aslong as his temps fine , wet and dirty nappies and drinking his milk.
he has them on both legs and his arms. He had his 12 week jabs last week, unsure if it’s related though as this only came up this morning.

The blisters look like they could be hand foot and mouth, but they might also be the beginning of chickenpox. The blotchy looks different. Does it blanch when you roll a glass over it?

He doesn’t actually have anything on his hand foot and mouth.. just legs and a small bit on his arms. Yes it does.

Could it be hives?

Could it be hives?

It matches the description but doesn’t look like the photos on google. They also don’t appear itchy..he’s not bothered to touch them etc. I’ve touched them and he doesn’t react

Kind of looks like this I think? That’s a cows milk allergy rash. This has only came up now though so would it take that long? He has always suffered with constipation on regular formula so he’s been on comfort milk for the past 10 weeks.

Funnily enough, my 9 month old had something similar last week. She's on the milk ladder due to dairy intolerance and I couldn't figure out if it was a reaction to cheese, some form of hand, foot and mouth... Or something else!? It was all over her legs and arms, and a bit on her cheeks but nowhere else. She had no temperature either and was mostly fine in herself, if a bit grumpy. Our GP ended up prescribing antibiotics and a cream. They've mostly gone now, but I don't know if it was just time and the dairy working its way out of her system, or whether the antibiotics or cream did anything. Hope your little one is on the mend soon!

ScoobyBooby · 29/05/2025 20:07

Possibly CMPA - the constipation would also be a red flag for me

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 29/05/2025 20:12

Looks like a hive reaction. Check with your pharmacist as it could be as simple as getting too hot and sweaty...they can have certain liquid antihistamine but check which ones are ok.

It could also be cmpa but constipation only would necessarily be enough to diagnose

But equally it could be molluscum or pomphylox eczema.

Personally I would be asking to see a different GP for a second opinion.

Snakeandladder · 29/05/2025 20:18

That's hives. Could be cmpa, allergy to any other protein (egg, wheat soy etc) or washing powder or soaps.

Would you recommend I call the gp again tomorrow and ask them to see him? Or just take him to a pharmacy? They just asked me to send photos earlier and gave a call back saying she’s not sure but seems okay..

for others saying could be cmpa especially with constipation..already suggested this to the gp who said constipation alone won’t be cmpa and if the spots/rash was to do with cmpa it wouldn’t take 13 weeks to show up🤦🏻‍♀️

baby is gaining weight well. He’s on the 99th centile for height and weight..seems fine in himself. I’m really worried it could be something terrible and I’ve been fobbed off.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 29/05/2025 20:32

I would try the pharmacy first and they will advise what tondo next.

As a sufferer if cmpa I agree that constipation alone and no rash until 13 weeks means it's unlikely. Although not unheard of.

It's best to rule out the easy things first if that makes sense.

If baby is happy in themselves then there is unlikely to be anything to worry too much about.

what signs of dairy intolerance did she have? When did they start? He’s only just came off of a week of antibiotics as he had a hang nail that went green. Dr said she didn’t think it was infected but gave them as a ‘just incase’

She was very gassy and had explosive poos from a few weeks, and I didn't really pick up that it was a dairy intolerance till about 3/4 months. I'm breastfeeding and gave up dairy and things improved. I probably gave up dairy for about 2 months and then slowly reintroduced it to my diet and all fine. She's weaning now and the hives were a new symptom, but, anecdotally, a friend whose baby had a milk intolerance said that their baby had different reactions sometimes to different kinds of dairy. Who knows! My DD had some spots on her the week before so I don't know if the rash was the dairy, or the spots from the week before escalating. It's mostly cleared up now within a week and I'll give it awhile before I give her cheese again. Sorry not to be able to be more help!

The white bumps look exactly like the hives I get. I’m allergic to animals and if a dog licks me/scratches me I’ll have those hives come up.
Could baby be allergic to something?
Any signs of baby struggling to breathe? I get hives and my airways close up when I’m having an allergic reaction.

Lullabycrickets23 · 29/05/2025 21:18

It looks like hives to me. My son always shows up with sort of rashes and this looks like hives. It could be that they come up for the heat or because he is intolerant to something. Try pharmacy or GP again.

I’m trying to think what it could be..
used the same washing powder since he was born so not that

Had calpol after his jabs 1 week ago

Had antibiotics for something unrelated 1 week ago

went to the zoo yesterday but obviously he got no where near the animals

using Johnson’s baby for bath products but have been since birth

on same formula for the last 10 weeks

could hives be from the heat? He has been very warm and sweaty the last few days despite my attempts to keep him cool, it’s super humid here atm.

his breathings fine. I have a snuzza hero breathing monitor he wears and it’s not alerted me of anything unusual.

Come to think of it DH just said he’s seen this a few times on his legs/hands since he was around a week old but never this many. I agree. Looking back on photos theres occasionally one on a leg or one on a hand.

When did the hives first come up?
Heat rash is more of a red bumpy sandpapery look/feel.
Did anybody touch an animal/enclosure and then handle the baby?
Other than the antibiotics/Calpol, any other new medicines?
I’d definitely get a second opinion from another GP and a pharmacist or two so you have a well rounded professional opinion. Take him in person.
Maybe for the next couple of weeks, keep a diary. Food/milk/anything that contacts his skin.
Do you have pets? Could the pets have fleas and he’s been bitten? My DP and DD aren’t bothered by fleas but I’m bitten rotten by them within days of my cats getting them.

Lullabycrickets23 · 29/05/2025 21:44

meagain3 · 29/05/2025 21:27

What has the gp done for hives when he’s had them?

Nothing really. For eczma I have sometimes prescriptions of cortisone but I am not sure if is ok for and would seek GP advice on this. The time he had an allergic reaction to antibiotics (the reaction included hives) he was given antihistamines and that helped, but again, given his age I would talk to GP/pharmacy.
If it’s a reaction to heat you could try a bath with some bicarbonate of soda and salt. That doesn’t do any harm but can help inflammation on the skin.

meagain3 · 29/05/2025 21:48

@PopThatBenchi noticed there was a LOT of them on his arms/legs this morning. No one touched any animals. No others medicines. No pets, he’s never been in close proximity to an animal.

ive just been looking through some photos of him from around 3 weeks old (when the constipation started) to now, he’s occasionally got an odd few. Around every few days there appears to be atleast one as I work out from photos.

@Lullabycrickets23 I’ll give the gp a call tomorrow and take him to the pharmacy also. DH and his mother and grandmother are all allergic to penicillin. Ds has penicillin in his antibiotics. I’m wondering if it’s that? And it’s took a week to show🤷🏽‍♀️ although DH mother says it was a distinctive rash that they’d get not hives.

OP posts:
Snakeandladder · 29/05/2025 22:09

It could be washing powder build up over time on the fibres. So after a few washes it's fine but after several weeks the fibres have more powder on them and so it triggers the allergic response. Could try strip washing the clothes.

My dd did have hives to dairy though.
