Child being randomly sick?

Really need some advice as I’m out of my mind with worry.

my 9 year old has type one diabetes & idopathic chronic constipation.

12 days ago - he woke up and was immediately sick. No biggie thought it was a bug however he was fine the rest of the day, kept his food down and was happy in himself.
the next day he woke up again & was sick and was then fine again!

all fine & dandy till day 8 and he woke up again and was sick. Was fine in himself and really hungry.
no more symptoms.

till today day 12 and he woke up and was sick.. yet again! Was fine in himself, hungry had lunch and then threw up again. And now he’s fine in himself!

the only thing he’s complained about is his armpit/ribs hurting since last Friday.

diabetes team don’t think it’s diabetes related as no ketones, and it happens if he’s high/low/in range and to young for complications.

I’ve been trying to get him into the GP but it’s a nightmare, I’ve been ringing on the dot at 8am but every time there’s no appointments. I’m planning to walk up to the surgery when they open tomorrow to get him appointment.
he’s been going regularly to the toilet and it’s nothing like pebbles or dirrahea which happens when he’s blocked up. Just normal. He also gets into severe pain when blocked up - but again not had this he’s fine in himself after being sick! His stomach feels really soft so nothing suggests it’s the constipation.

any ideas what’s causing this? The sickness is making his diabetes harder to care for, and I just want to know if it’s a random thing or something sinister. He nearly died when he was diagnosed with diabetes as I wasn’t taken seriously he was constantly sent home from a&e when he was desperately poorly (it took his GP to run a simple urine test and blue light him to A&E for me to taken seriously!) - so this now effects my way of thinking when he’s poorly.

Phone 111 and see if they can give you and OOH GP appointment tonight OP. I wouldn’t wait around as there’s no guarantee you will get an appointment tomorrow either. Sorry no idea what could be causing it

There’s no out of hours GP Appointments by me I live in the middle of nowhere. All I can think of is taking him to a&e tomorrow if I can’t get an appointment and he wakes up being sick again.

I absolutely would if I were you. I still think 111 is worth a call, sometimes they can let a&e no you are coming or have ideas you haven’t thought of. But I’d make sure he sees some sort of doctor asap

I just feel like nobody is taking me seriously again, it was the receptionist who told me to walk up to the surgery and go in when it opens and make an appointment as I’ve been on the phone all week trying to get one. It’s just serious when he’s being sick and can’t keep food down and now I’m worried if I feed him he’ll be sick but he needs carbs/insulin otherwise he’ll create ketones. It’s catch 22 situation.

Reflux - my daughter had this at a similar age, vomitung when she woke up - the pain might be acid but yes see a GP
or medical professional

I was wondering this, he has random hiccup attacks too. But he says he doesn’t feel like a burnt/acidy pain just the needing to be sick.
Ill mention this to the GP maybe gaviscon would do the trick then.

Google how closely related type 1 diabetes is to coeliacs disease (also combined with the constipation and now vomiting which are both main symptoms). If already negative for coeliacs then the vomiting could be related to an impending impaction with the constipation?

He was tested for coeliac disease about 4 years ago, could it just randomly start out of the blue? I would of thought if he’s impacted he wouldn’t be having normal poos? He’s been impacted before and he couldn’t poo at all it was just overflow and he wasn’t eating and kept wetting himself as it was squashing his bladder.

I just honestly feel like crying. It’s been one thing after another after another. It just doesn’t make sense that he’ll have days of being fine! He’s been sick twice today and he’s had toast and some plain biscuits that he’s kept down and he’s happily playing on his pc you wouldn’t think he’s been sick. And when he’s impacted - he won’t even get out of bed.

Well it’s not coeliac as he had white toast last night and hasn’t been sick today! I raised his bed with a few pillows so I’m guessing it’s acid reflux especially if I’m waking him up in the night for hypos with food and he’s lying straight back down. He has a doctors appointment this morning praise be!

Ahhh I'm so glad I have come across this thread!
My son is 9 and he has been having the same since about February. It's first thing when he wakes up, starts coughing and then he's sick. Afterwards he feels fine. Its very random, not every day but always first thing when he wakes up.
Doctor sent him for blood tests and all came back clear apart from IGE levels which mean some sort of allergy. Could be pollen according to the doctor. He's referred the results on to Peadiatrics to see if they want to test more.
Still doesn't solve our problem though. We've had a nightmare with school trying to send him home saying its a sick bug 🫠
I never thought it could be reflux but it does make sense. He coughs a lot first which is what I do if I have reflux. We find it happens when he's been awake for a bit in bed lying down without breakfast.

We just got back from the GP who is convinced it’s acid reflux and prescribed gaviscon for him. my son also suffers with hiccups and the dry cough like you said and is then sick.
Honestly get some for your son it’s worth a try! :)
