There older sister is immunocompromised so it’s been offered
I can’t see a lot of information online so I’m looking for personal experience with this vaccine

i will obviously talk to the nurse when I get there but I’m also asking here
Thankyou

My youngest had the vaccine last year aged 1, absolutely no side effects and she avoided catching it when it was rife at nursery. Definitely worth it!

Neither of mine had any side effects other than a bump around the vaccine site. My eldest is 8, youngest is 3, neither have caught chicken pox when it's gone round.

My LO had the first dose at 9 months (wanted to avoid a nursery outbreak). Only side effect was increased sleepiness on the day of the jab.

If your kids are over 15 months, the first dose is highly protective. If under 15 months, they definitely need the second dose to get the same degree of protection (though everyone is recommended to get the second dose anyway). I will get LO the second dose when they are older.

I have actually had the vaccine myself. Despite having definitely had chickenpox as a toddler, I had to have my antibodies measured at work in my twenties and they came back really low, so work insisted I get vaccinated to boost them. As a adult I also found the chickenpox vaccine fine, just a bit of a sore arm for two days.

No vaccine is 100% protective, but natural infection has downsides too (shingles). I remember having chickenpox as a toddler, I was very very itchy and I think that's why such an early memory has stuck with. Calamine lotion was the only thing back then...

Thanx everyone
they had the first dose this afternoon and both fine so far! Although getting them back in 8 weeks for the second dose is going to be a challenge despite the stickers!

Both my children have had the vaccine, it’s been five years since and neither have caught chicken pox! My youngest had no symptoms my eldest had 1 chicken pox spot at the sight of the injection.

12 years ago my eldest caught chicken pox (aged 8 months) and ended up being sent to hospital as it was that bad. I didn’t even know a vaccine was an option at that time but would not hesitate to get it if I had. A lot of people will say chicken pox isn’t that bad etc but it really can be very serious.
