Co sleeping

Really hoping for some honest advice here

My 24 month old ( for the last 3 months) will only go to sleep in my bed if I lie next to him and it can take over an hour and a half. He refuses to sleep in his cot. Although he would sleep there months ago.

He sleeps all night now in the bed with me and my husband. In general he’s a very happy little boy and a pleasure during the day. But only wants his mummy at night. Is this normal?

Should I be trying harder to get him in his cot?

It was normal for us and our children. As far as we were concerned, sleep was the most important thing - if you’re happy with it, don’t stress about it. He’ll sleep in his own bed eventually.

When he does move to his own bed though, you might want to think about getting him a double bed - makes co-sleeping a lot easier!

it’s normal for them to still want you day and night, he’s still only little.

We bought my DS a small double before he was 1. I’ve always co-slept and this made it so much easier and meant everyone got a decent nights sleep if he woke during the night I would just go into his bed and we’d all fall straight back to sleep. It’s still great now especially when he’s poorly and I can sleep next to him to keep a close eye on him in the night. We’ll be doing the same for DS2 once we’ve moved house.

My daughter never slept in her cot but at 24 months we moved her to a cot bed to a bed and she started to sleep on their. I could get in with her much easier than the cot too!
