She’s had a cough and snotty nose this week but otherwise fine. She was around someone 2 weeks ago who then developed chickenpox a day or 2 later. Noticed these spots today. Is it start?

Looks like it to me!

fourelementary · 17/05/2025 23:26

Yup! I’d say so.

DejaMooo · 17/05/2025 23:28

Could well be. My daughter’s started with 3 spots on her tummy and by the morning they were everywhere.

Jollyjoy · 17/05/2025 23:42

Yes does look like it. You’ll see more in the morning if it is. Remember not to give ibuprofen if she needs painkillers.

FishcalledDory · 17/05/2025 23:43

Yea I think it is, you’ll probably see a lot more in the morning!

The first time I saw chicken pox, there were 2 of the little spots and I thought it was eczema, it was on the morning of a day out. By the time we got home there were about 15 spots and the next morning that probably doubled!

Get the oat baths and piriton ready!

thanks everyone!
she’s woken up with a few more including one on back and one on bottom but not covered?

Hi Flamingo, my son wasn't 'covered' when he had them either and broke out in 4-5 for more each day over about 3 days before they started healing. I think we got lucky, I hope you do as well and she is feeling ok!

Jollyjoy · 18/05/2025 10:20

Yes some of them get away with quite a light dose, it’s possible if she’s not covered. Do you have other kids? As the subsequent ones tend to get it worse due to being exposed more to the virus. You can take her to a pharmacy for them to take a look.

I do and I’ve just seen this on him - they were around the same child couple weeks ago. How long til they blister? They’re like pimply at moment but not blister blister?

That’s a good thing they were exposed at the same time I think, rather than one after the other - hopefully both have it less heavily and you get it over with all in one rather than waiting for it to appear in the second! It’s a while since we went through it but from memory not all of them blistered, most did but some were just bumps. Good if they are feeling ok so far. The first of mine was quite poorly with fever and diarrhoea before the spots came out and we realised.

It varies person to person if you look up on NHS it says some have it in one area and some get all over some have a few spots and some have loads.

I got them age 5 and had a handful of spots and no fever. Then my oldest brither 12 had them and he was covered head to toe sick for 2 weeks. Inside his ears and eye lids and mouth. Age 45 he still brings it up and blames me. Yes I got it feom a swimming pool party but not idea I was 5!
