Extra toe shoes

Hi - wondering if anyone else has a child with an extra toe and can recommend any shoes / custom shoe places in London? My 14 mo has 6 toes on his right foot, his feet are already extra wide (H in Clarks) and quite chunky, he's recently started walking and seems quite bothered by his shoes and I can see in sandals it doesn't look too comfy. Any pointers appreciated, thanks!

Of course every child is different and the doctors will advise you, but I’ve known a baby born with 6 fingers and another born with 12 toes. All had the extra digits removed early on (quicker healing time, no lasting memories etc) and now they’re teens people who knew at the time have forgotten about it. It’s quite routine surgery and doesn’t even take long. Good luck to you!

I would definitely recommend barefoot shoe brands - have a search of Barefoot Brit, she has lots of recommendations. She also runs a fb group and I’ve seen recommendations in there before for a child with 6 toes.

Other “wide fit” shoes tend to be wide more at the mid foot and still squeeze the toe, whereas barefoot friendly shoes have a foot shaped toe box. Lots of options on Amazon as well as the more expensive vivobarefoot etc

not you

Well quoting me makes it seem like it was addressed to me. If that was a mistake OK.

All surgeries carry risks though don't they? Having been with two of my children as they were prepped for surgery it isn't easy to put a child through surgery so I'd have to be sure having an extra toe is a problem rather than just not the norm. I have no experience of the condition so no idea if it is a problem.

I think it’s worth asking for a referral to an orthotist. They can prescribe custom made shoes, and they are really nice nowadays!
