Daughter hard blinking

Hi, hope to see if anyone else has experienced this.

My 8 yr old daughter has recently been what I would describe as hard blinking a lot. She will really squint her eyes tight with every blink and I just don’t know why or what Is causing it. Some days it is not as bad as others.
It has been about 2 weeks now.

Before this started she had a habit of clearing her throat noise too , but that has now stopped and it is this. I worry so much about her.

we have an opticians appointment tomorrow to rule out anything.

Has anyone been through this at all?

Thankyou

Could be a little habit she’s picked up, my daughter did the throat clearing and often does other little odd things for a while.

Also could mean she needs glasses or perhaps even hayfever related?

Hope all goes well tomorrow!

It's a tic, there is a good chance it will get better without any intervention. If it's distressing for her, you could see the GP but I wouldn't rush to do this.

Hi, my DD9 has something very similar, it has been going on for about a month. Went to the opticians this week, they had a look and it turns out her eyelids are inflamed underneath causing her to blink a lot and quite heavily. They have given us a spray antihistamine as they suspect its probably an allergy to pollen so hayfever. Constantly clearing her throat too even though she seems to drink plenty. Hope you manage to get it sorted op x

Sounds like a tic, they are quite common at this age.

Both clearing throat and the blinking sound like tics.

My DD had that EXACT same tic at around age 11. It seemed to appear on and off for a couple of years. To be honest I'm not even sure whether or not other people noticed it, but it did worry me. She is older now, no longer does it, and I'd kind of forgotten about it until I read your message.

Thankyou for all your replies.

I will put an update on after the opticians today… see if it could be a hayfever thing , dry eyes, or maybe is a tic. It was bugging her yesterday.

I did wonder could it be a tic.

Thankyou all x

The worst thing to do with a tic is draw attention to it, so if it is that then try to ignore it and not make a thing of it.

My friend used to do this, we were about 6 or 7 and because I liked her so much I started copying her! She needed glasses, when she got them the blinking stopped!
