17 MO Delays

Hello

Firstly i’d like to say I struggle with anxiety with my little boys development, I guess i’m looking for reassurance.

My LO is 17 MO. He’s had glasses since 13 months old and is on the waiting list for a ENT referral due to recovering ear infections.

Since a small baby, he’s been obsessed with spinning things, toys, wheels, etc. Playing with non toys, tip toe walking, and is slightly delayed on speech. Will not use a spoon/fork. Refuses to try new foods, or eat much at all. He gets angry and frustrated easily, has a short attention span but has a kind and loving nature. I’ve not been any new development really over the past 2 months, there’s lots of babbling but no new words no matter how much we sit and spend time with him with books and toys.

I’ve discussed with nursery if they have any concerns and they’ve said not yet, but they did have concerns before he had glasses. After this they will have a chat with SENCO staff member, which tells me that there is a concern.

I don’t know what to do, i’m trying my best to make my little one happy and give him the best chance of early intervention if needed, although most of this is normal, my gut tells me that there’s something more.

Any help or experiences would be much appreciated.

Thanks

hi when my DC were not wanting to eat new things, I didnt give them the new foods on their plates, instead I put the food on my plate when they were sat in their high chairs with just a toy, and they would ask for some of my food, so I would give them a little bit to eat/play with.
They ended up eating pretty much everything in the end. It took the pressure off them I think, as it was not part of their dinner but just something new to play with.
Regarding the development, try not to worry, you are doing the right thing bu asking the staff and you will get to follow up with the SENCO in due course. My DS was constantly falling over and having accidents, it changed dramatically when he got glasses just after he turned 2.

How much milk is he on?

We had to go cold turkey with DD (currently 19m) during the day as she had no interest in eating.

Day two of no day time milk and she’s eating things she would previously turn her nose up.
